It's an option! You can get one from your Whaler dealer but putting them on is tricky!

Personally I think it is kind of ugly and Whaler should pay you to advertise......but I also think Whalers are kinda ugly and therefore I personally put the big "Whaler" on my Montauk. The only problem is the snide remarks like"What kind of boat is it?" etc. They also scratch easily so bumpers are VERY helpful.

They call them "bumperboats" at the waterparks.....not "fenderboats":)

Now I know us nautical people have to be difficult so....fenders do not protect your vehicle from accidents....bumpers do:)

No in the case of CPD Whalers, they use rollbars on the sides.

.03 Those big WHALER side decals look like crap. Problem is they destroy the sides of the boat for future buyers. I've seen at least 6 boats where a new owner with some class has removed them- only to cover up their forever outline with some other graphic. If you don't graphic over the mess it just shows thru, that subtle huge WHALER , dull against nice gelcoat. .03 David

I agree but being my hull was 12 years old BEFORE i put them on....I doubt I will have that problem. It was however a consideration before I installed them. The one nice thing is VER few Montauks have them so anyone can spot me coming a mile away.....literally:)

Ostentatious is my gut feeling. Hey, Whaler is a top tier boat- so why this mess on the side of the boat (ret). Do I see CONTENDER schmmmmeeered on the side, do I see GRADY WHITE schmmmmmeeered on the side, how about PURSUIT schmmmmeeered on the side.

Basically, I believe people vote with their feet. In this case, acetone, compound and the buffer. I bet 9 out of 10 of these factory option graphics have been removed. .03 David

Every ROBALO had it on their hull:-) Remove the "A" and you now have a Rob Lo.

Could be worse though....they could all say "Whalure".....had to do it Larry:)

He bought it new and instead of doing the big letters he had the name made to look like it....at least that is what I remember him saying.

In reference to Robalos....I know about 4 people who owned the 20'late 70-early 80's model and ALL of them became waterlogged. Waterlogged from rainwater too. I looked at them when I bought my Hydra-sport and was considering one until I looked really close. Plastic thru-hulls and hinges, screwed on decks and you see all the screws, etc. No wonder they have slipped away. Pity being they used to be a good boat.

My 1986 Outrage Cuddy came with the large red Whaler decals. I too received many wise a..... remarks and I did not like the look. I bought my boat new, but it sat in the dealer's yard for two year years after it was manufactured. I removed the decal within a couple of months. However, if you look real close you can still see the words of the decal, particularly when the wax job oxidizes. Whalers should be ashamed of themselves for offering these large decals.

I'm with MCano. I always thought the optional big WHALER letters were terribly gauche. I wouldn't be caught dead with them on a boat of mine.

Anyway, they weren't Dick Fisher's idea. As with many fashion trends of the 1980's, let's hope the big WHALER letters just quietly go away.

As most know.... like to buck the trends so......mine are staying exactly where "I" put them.
