Looking at a 15'. Claiming to be a 1990 BW, offset center console with a Johnson 40 hp.VRO. Asking $6500. Did BW make an offset center console that year? Looks like 1988 was last year according to info. on 15'? Is $6500 too much? Also includes a 1995 trailer. What is max. hp. for that boat? Will the 40 do good? The boat also has bow pedestal seat. All supposed to be orig. & in excellent cond.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

I could be a lot of things. Does the console look like a Montauk console that is cut down? If so it is a Sport 15 Center Console model that may have had the console moved to the side. If it is then it will have a tunnel or rigging tube going down the floor of the boat. None of the other 15' models had this feature.

If the console is smaller than a cut down Montauk console and mounted to the starboard side without the tunnel then it might be a Striper model. This model had the bow mounted pedestal seat as standard equipment.

I know that both the Striper 15 and Sport 15 Center Console models were produced at least until 1988 or 1989. Not sure about 1990.

To determine the model year just look at the HIN riveted to the transom. The last four digits/characters will tell you the month and year of production as well as the model year.

The boat is rated for 70 hp. With a 40 it should do about 30 mph.

Price seems high.

Does sound like a striper. My 1981 striper has a white fiber glass side console with no passenger seat in front of the console. Pedistal seat in the front mounted behing the bow locker. With a 70 johnson, will run in the low 40's. Good luck,

BC

Kevin, I have a 15 with the same motor. Its a solid combo for sea-level. Pops onto a plane in seconds, tops out at 30-31mph which is usually faster than my passengers are comfortable with. However, if your are pulling waterskiers or occasionally run it in high elevation lakes like I do, you'll want more horsepower. I agree that the price is a bit high. Closer to 5K is more realistic IMHO.

Isn't there a 92 on here with same engine for $4500?

I just bought my 85 CC Sport, with the original seat/rail replace with 2 good pedestals, in good shape for $5600 with strong 70 Yamaha and Continental (overkill) 2800 lb trailer.
As the other post indicates, if you have a tunnel/cover just off center, it's a Center Console Model. Otherwise, perhaps a Striper.
Again, if it's in prime shape, it might be worth a bit more....

I have a '94 15' GLS, side console, so '90 wasn't the last year...

63whaler:

I see your in NC and I am in Virginia. 15's around these parts sell for between 5500 and 7000 depending on condition. Recently saw a 1985 15 CC on the chesapeake bay sell for over 7000. So your price is within the range that I have seen on all the 15's recently sold in my area. Good luck.
