I keep my 17' Montauk on the North River in MA. and was surprised to see a model of Boston Whaler I had never seen before docked where I keep my boat . A Boston Whaler Voyageur. The owner told me there were only about 35 manufactured at the Whaler factory in Rockland MA. I believe he told me they were built in the early to mid seventies.

I was just curious if anyone out there was familiar with this model and had additional info. I could give this gentleman about his boat.

Thanks

Walt

The history sheets I have from Whaler show the V21 Yankee Voyger was only built in 1975 as an outboard version. It also states that the mold was bought from Hili?????.

Walt,

The boat in question is called the Yankee Voyager, as Clark points out. It is not a conventional Whaler, i.e., not foam filled, nor is it designed like a Whaler.

The mold was purchased from HiLiner. It is a deep-V hull. Is was produced with both outboard and I/O power.

The mold is now owned by long time Whaler dealer Nauset Marine. The boat they produce from the mold is called a Nauset Islander and is more of a work boat as built by them.

This hull was designed by Ray Hunt who is responsible for the original Bertram design (the first true deep-V hull).

I believe the information about the numbers produced by Whaler is correct. There is more about this boat in the Whaler Radio interview with Nauset Marine elsewhere on this site.

Dad's friend had one. Looks like a Bertram Bahia mar?

Tom,

You described this boat perfectly. It Looks just like a Hiliner. The model I saw is an I/O.

Thanks to everyone for providing me with information on this vessel.

The model by Hiliner that looks like the Bertram Bahia Mar is called the Gypsy. It was and to some degree still is a very desireable model. The owners loved the rough water handling and used them as mini offshore sportfisherman.
