I flew out to Nova Scotia to pick up my new to me 1997 Montauk on Thursday.I picked it up from the dealer's dock and had about a 20 min run to my dock. Everything was perfect. 35 knts on GPS wot at 5000 rpm. The boat has its origional Evenrude 90
BTW the Standard Horizon 150 c works great in full sun. I highly recommend it.
Today decided to take my parents for a run out to Big Tankook Island. As I go to start the boat the housing holding the ignition falls off and I have to fish around in the consul to stick it back in and fire it up.
The run there was fine. About half way back the motor started to hesitate, then cut back to 2000 rpm witht the throtle stick all the way forward. After that it bounced back and forth between 2000 and 4000 rpm about 10 seconds of each until it finally died about .5 mile from my dock in some very tricky water with ledges and shoals. As we drifted up near Gimlets Ledge I put the ancor out and it held.
I then restarted the engine. It ran fine in nutral with proper throtal responce however as soon as I droped it into grear it died each time.
I brought a cell phone thinking that something might happen with a motor I do not know and we called a neighbour who came out an towed us in.
My question to all of you is what do you think is wrong with the motor. The dealer will come out Monday to have a look. But I am typing this from the departure area at Halifax Airport on my way home and I want to be able to talk to the dealer intellegently on Monday.
The cheque will be cancelled first thing Monday until this is sorted out.
Regards
Andrew
