I have been struggling for some time now with the layout of my 67,13 sport (side console, dual thwart seats, original in every sense). By that I mean how are others setting up the layout of all the other items that normally go into a boat. Things such as batteries, electric motor, gear, PDF's, tackle boxes, cooler...etc.

Just looking for alternatives or more clever ways of keeping/storing stuff in this little beauty. As many may be aware (or not)..she has been in our family from day one in 67, all original down to the 25 Evinrude. To give all an indication of my set up, here is how it is currently set up. Mainly used as a fishing vessel and carrying two people.
thanks

* in rear behind thwart seat: original 6 gallon fuel tank between two batteries (starting and deep cycle for transon mounted trolling motor).

* Small tool pouch under rear seat.

Rubbermaid container with PDF's, first aid kit, flares, flags, rain gear, extra fuel line, oil etc. (located this in front of console, starboard side)

* inside front storage locker...anchor, line extra anchor rope, towels.

* Bimini with cover, stored forward or aft as conditions dictate.

* now add two fisherman, a couple of rods, tackle boxes, cooler, bait bucket. Trolling motor rides on floor of boat during travel. God only knows where we would put fish if we actually caught them.

This set up works but at times it hits me that there must be better ways. Bigshot and others...short of selling and going up to a bigger Whaler (not an option)

Any ideas are helpful...thank you

take care

You can save a good bit of space by replacing the six gallon tank with a low-profile 12 gallon Tempo that will slide under your thwart bench.

had a 13 redesign that I was very happy with. a rear deck made of plywood, covered with carpet that served as a rear casting platform, hinged aft supported with mahogany framework. board type life perservers were placed two per seat and filled with foam blockers to use as seat cusions, held in place with naugahide cover snapped to bottom of seat. for scuba diving gear up space, the front seat became the seatback for the rear seat. have also modified a 15 the same way, and happy with the results.

mine is modified big time. center console (small). rear seat is a 54qt cooler with cushion, flip back seat rest (like on real CC's - can fish to the rear). In front of the console is another 54qt cooler with cushion. There is plenty of room in the front before the deck to fish, move around, etc. I put the 6gal gas tank to the right of the center cosole.

for fishing, this is a great setup. Not bad for just cruising either.

Thanks all for the responses...looks like I have a few options to consider over the winter (at least for us "northerns" we can work on our boats and not feel guilty about missing time on the water).

Even though the old Gal is 95% original back to 67, I am definitly going to toss the old 6 gal metal fuel tanks for under the seat type.

I might even consider removing the front thwart seat as my fishing buddy uses the front anchor area to fish. This would give much more room to move around when fighting those Stripers and Walleye.

thanks
take care...
