I just put a deposit down on a 1990 17' Montauk just in time for striper season. I'm realy excited because I have been looking for a long time for the right boat. The only concern I have is the prior owner painted a very obnoxious name on the side. He is an older gentlemen and he attributed the name to some family history thing. I would realy like to remove the name. I am sure there are many commercially available products that would due the trick but I'm just not sure which one is the best. Any suggestions or advice.

If it's just paint, I suspect PeelAway (usually used to remove bottom paint) would do fine. It doesn't harm gel coat.
