I have read past threads (1 year back) and would like POSITIVE input regarding repowering 1988 Newtauk w/new motor for cruising Cape Ann , Ma and some fishing. Woul like to be able to go off shore. Have seen alot of chatter about Mercs vs Yama's/ 2's vs 4's and not alot about Johnson ( Bomb>)

I did read a very convincing article regardng the benefits of a new 2 Stroke vs a new 4 strk and I do not see any reason to buy a 4 strk. They are more $$,weigh more and perform the same for my use.. Gas $$ is not an issue as the true cost over time is simular.

WHAT IS A GOOD PRICE FOR A 90 NEW MOTOR ? INSTALLED}

Hi, John.

Sounds like you want someone to agree with you. If that is the case, buy a new Bombardier 90. Johnson is cheaper, Evinrude more efficient.

If you want opinions on what is the best engine for your boat, then buy a Johnson/Suzuki DF70 4 stroke.

The only 2 strokes that are competitive with 4 strokes are DFI engines. When you get under 90hp the choice is limited to Evinrude and Tohatsu, and nothing else.

A Johnny 90, installed, should be under $7000.

I have a Yamaha 50 horse 2 stroke. It doesn't smoke much at all, and really really quiet! When i first turned it on i thought it had died out. In the water you almost cant hear it at idle. Its a great little engine.
