I looked at a 1992 Outrage, 19 feet, powered by a 150 Yamaha- The boat looked well maintained, and strongly built, however, I noticed on this boat, was well as the other three used Whalers on the lot, an almost continuous gelcoat crack along the top face of the transom in the area of the motor mounting. This crack ran almost the full width of the recessed section of the transom. On all of the vessels, it appears to run parallel with the aft face of the transom and is found about 1/8 of an inch forward from the transoms aft face. I noticed on some other non-whalers that this section of the transom is usually capped by a piece of sheet metal or other non structural material and is therefore not viewable. Is this gel coat cracking at this location a common occurance and does it indicate a future problem or is it repairable? Thanks for any info you can provide Tom Collins
