I have an underseat 12 gallon Pate fuel tank in my 15' sport. I have several times "run out of fuel" when I can clearly see approx. 3 gals of fuel left in the tank. I bought this tank (and it wasn't cheap) so that I would have extra fuel capacity and clear decks. I seems to me that the pickup tube is not going to the bottom of the tank or that it has a leak and pulls air at a certain point. Anyone else have a similar situation or a recommendation (beyond keep more fuel in the tank) ?

Suggestion......Call Pate ......they are very nice ....I'm sure they will work out your problem.

Did you buy the tank directly from Pate? or is this a second hand tank?

I had a 15 in my 15' and it would do the same thing. Good thing was it was like reserve. Once it ran out, you could tilt the tank up and have another 3 gallons to get you back to port. I kinda liked that feature. The other thing is the tank has no baffles so that gas can really slosh around, causing it to suck air.

Boat was a 1979 and I bought it in 1987.....so late 70's early 80's.

Mine had no baffles and was a clear red fiberglass. It was a pate though and had the same crappy leaky gas cap.

I bought the tank a year ago through a Whaler dealer on Long Island in N.Y.. It was a new tank. At first I thought that I might need a new fuel line .... replaced it and still had the problem. I don't really run "offshore" in the boat, but still .... I should not be "sucking air" with 1/4 tank of fuel left.
