Hi,
Am polling this great forum for knowlege of this combo, engine 84 boat 85.
What is redline of engine?
If any members are running this combo what prop are you slinging?
Any inherent problems with engine type? this one has the oil injection with tank under cowling.
As some know I have a 15 sport with 50 OMC and this Yammie seems a dog in comparison. I will reprop, remove Hydro-fin and raise engine soon.
Now I need infor, please.

Regarding the performance of the 15-foot hull with 50-HP engine: See http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/prop2.html where I have included a table showing the engine speed/boat speed numbers. This is with a 27-year-old 50-HP Mercury, so you ought to be able to get these results easily with a good, strong modern 50-HP engine.

Prior to re-powering my '85 15CC with a 50 Merc 4-cycle, I had a 70 Yam same as yours. Truthfully, it was a bit too much power for my purposes. It would run 40-44 mph lightly loaded, and with 2 people and lots of gear, it ran 38+. The new Merc is not fully broken in yet, but easily runs 33-34 mph at 85% throttle.. The Merc has a 13 pitch, and the Yamaha was not marked, but I suspect a 15 pitch.

Thanks, jimh and skred
I guess I was disappointed in the performance of the Yamaha after so much HOOPLA on this site as to how great they are.
My 15 sport with seatback (1983), 6 gal gas, 1 battery, myself and approx 30 lbs of anchor and other gear will top out at 38/37 and the hole shot will scare you. I can cruise at the avg speed of 28 MPH and expect 6 mpg.

In contrast the Yamaha (1984)seems a lot slower out of the hole and my guess the top end is less than 34. Yes, the alum prop is a bit ragged and it has a hydro-fin the size of a card table on it and the engine is flat on the transom and not raised. I was going to order a 14 stainless prop but wanted to know if that was what I needed.

According to Yamaha's web site their modern 50 HP on a 140 Edgewater will top out at 34/35. Boat weight is approx same.

I have GPS figures for the sport none for the 15 CC.

Thanks again,
Jim Armstrong
