WHAT IS THE SECRET TO STARTING THIS MOTOR AFTER IT HAS BEEN SITTING BETWEEN OUTINGS?AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS IT TAKES FOREVER TO GET GOING AFTER PUMPING BALL PRIMER. THANKS

I've written about this before. Check the primer bulb, does it have a yellow ring on it where the hose connects? If not, you need to get the newer Quicksilver bulb. Call your Merc mechanic, mine told me that this was a tech bulletin for hard starting motors. Mine was like that, my mechanic changed out the bulb and my 1979 90hp starts on first crank now.

Often an engine will have a specific procedure for starting. Typically this procedure is described in detail in the owners manual. Adhering to the procedure will probably help.

If the engine does not start easily when following the recommended procedure then you probably should consult the local Mercury dealer for advice and possible repair.

Engines that sit for several weeks between use may benefit from procedures at last shut down which minimize the fuel remaining in the carburetor (if equipped).
