Factory installed Tee-Tops are a rather recent addition to the Whaler line. None of the classic boats were offered with a Tee-Top. I don't know precisely when Whaler started adhering to this fad, but I would guess it was in the 1990's.Personally I think that a Tee-Top on a trailerable boat creates a big problem when on the highway. The top has to be able to withstand being buffeted by 65-MPH wind for hours and hours. Most of them cannot. And if you boat north of the Tropic of Cancer, you'll probably be better served with more traditional canvas shelters. |

I have seen 1970's outrages with aftermarket t-tops. They seem to work ok, but as noted they don't look original on the boat. If you want to keep the boat original, go with a stainless framed bimini.Another factor to consider is the boat's narrow beam. If you happen to want a t-top so that you can fish around the boat without hitting the top, you need to keep in mind that the beam is more narrow than most modern 21 foot boats, so the t-top may still be in the way of fishing rods, etc. unless it's a narrow design...and if the top is narrow it won't offer much protection. If I had a 70-72 outrage I would want to keep it as original as possible, which means no t-top. |

I know where there is a hardtop t top thats off a early 22' Outrage. It's location is app. 1 mile from the Sagamore-Route 3 rotory on the mainland side in Mass.It has a overhead electronics box also. Its A Charter Boat Captain that has it off of his previous charter boat a 22 Outrage. His present Sport Fishing Boat is called "O.U.T.R.A.G.E" because of the earlier 22' Outrage he chartered.Give him a call about the top or if you want to charter in Cape Cod Bay(he is out of Sesuit Harbor in Dennis on the Cape Bay Side)Capt. My wife and I travelled along the east coast, and stopped by the Whaler factory in 1977, and saw a very unique 21'. It had no upper skin, and a tower mounted on it. It was either in the yard or water....can't remember just where we saw it. When I asked about it, the guy who was giving us a tour, (someone by the name of Dougherty....) he said it was their photo platform boat. Don |
