I am looking to restore and resell a few older, small (11-15) Whalers. I would likely advertise them in the Boat Trader (automatically goes onto boattraderonline.com) or even Ebay.I know that people nationwide look for Whalers and are willing to ship (I had a man from Ohio fly down to look at my 13'). My question is: Does selling a Whaler in the winter really effect the price? Since I am in Florida I never realized people "winterize" boats and store them for months at a time. Would it be in my best interest to make these spring/summer projects, or will the monetary difference not be enough to worry about?

You might get a better response posting this in the Market Place forum.Personally, I usually don't think about boats until the first warm day of spring. Here in North Texas, I winterize my boat not only because of the weather, but also because hunting season is in and I don't look at a fishing pole until after spring Turkey season. |

Interesting. I live in the same general area as Whaler Proud but I get interested in local boating in the Fall, when I can have the lakes to myself. Everyone else is hunting or in school.I use the winter to make and refine any modifications or improvements to my boats. Then in Spring and Summer I travel north to fish where I can have solitude and tolerable weather. Were I in the market for another Whaler I would want to buy it in the Fall. Red sky at night. . . I believe if someone is looking for a CLASSIC he/she will do so any time of the year.Since lowering of prices during the winter months, and times of economic difficulty both individually, and nationally opportunities arise. Typically classics do tend to rise in value though slowly sometimes, but locating the right boat at the right price with the idea of resale, can be difficult especially since the internet has allowed for better knowledgable buyers. Having the opportunity to buy a rare classic is however always an opportunity. |
