If you all recall, I recently passed on a 135 Opti as I had a fear of being underpowered. Now, I've run across the following two engines:
1. New in-the-box 1998 Merc. 200 EFI, saltwater model, 25" shaft (which I need), binnacle control, key switch w/ warning horn and wiring harness, control cables, oil tank, aluminum prop, rigged on my boat for $8880.
2. New in-the-box 2002 Merc. 200 EFI, non-saltwater model, 20" shaft w/ 5" extension and all accessories, rigged on my boat for the same price.
Are there any "real" differences in the saltwater vs. regular models? I suspect not since it would probably cost Merc. more in the long run. Merc's website lists the use of stainless steel in the steering arm, swivel pin, tilt tube and yoke on the saltwater model, but not on the regular. They also list ECM controlls on the saltwater and PCM on the regular. Is there a difference or is this just a typo.
Which you you guys buy for use strictly in a saltwater environment?
I guess the main question here is are there any real differences in the "Saltwater model" other than the availability of a 25" shaft without using an extension?
Thanks again for all of your help guys.
