Hello, Whaler fans. I'm looking to purchase my first Whaler classic(Outrage 22-25). In looking at various boats, I've seen two types of stern seats. One, which I believe is the factory option, that sits up off the deck, the other is not. The "other" is the what I'd like the opinion/info on. This consists of a mounted seat back with ice chests w/cushions as seats. What are the advantages/disadvantages between the two? If I take water over the bow I would think the ice chests would trap the water in the boat. However, the added ice chests would be great for those summer fishing trips. Thanks!

It is extremely difficult for any home constructor to design and produce a component for the classic Boston Whaler like a cockpit rear seat with the style and utility of a Whaler original. For lack of a better term, most of these owner-created additions look home made. |

I agree with Jim 100%. Yoou can almost always pick out a non original Whaler item that has been added on. My stern seat, the first type Harpoon spoke of, had nice rounded contours, and sat at such a height that it was slightly above the gun'l, but below the top of the railings, in other words, it looked like someone planned for it to be there.Dan |

Whaler also offered a folding stern seat that had a low padded backrest attached to a rail across the stern, and a hinged fiberglass seat with folding U shaped legs. A cushion snapped onto the plank style seat. I am planning to build a modified version of this for my Outrage 22 Cuddy. One of these is shown on a 25 Revenge on Cetacea Page 3. |
