(I'm sure this question has been asked before. I did a few searches but it is tough when your not sure what to search for.)

I have a 1971 21-Outrage. There is a conical shaped plug in the stern to the left of the [transom] cutout. It is about 5 1/2 inches in diamiter and extends into the hull. I beleive it my have been for some sort of steering set up. Any ideas? Any suggestions on plugging or capping? jim

It is there to give the steering arm room to move when using the twin Bearcat motors that a lot of the boats were rigged with. I thought mine was after market and was going to have it "fixed". Found out on this [forum] that it was a factory thing for steering arm clearance. I have a 1971 also, how do you like yours?

I have the same boat (hull # 185) and that's also what I was told when I bought it. I love the boat, it's just a bit big for some of the smaller lakes we fish.

The boat is great!!! I fish it from April through December. Most fishing is inshore but I do venture as far as 25 miles out. It can be tough on your legs and back in a good chop (hence the name "ballbuster"). Owning a good set of rain gear also helps. Its the wettest boat I've ever owned. I would like to replace that plug or cap it off. I noticed water seeping in around the seal and a few cracks in the cone. jim
