I'm making a deal on a '72 Bearcat with a verified use of less than 20 hrs.

What would be the most classic and useful hull to complete the package?

A classic blue hull, maybe a nice Katama if you don't like woodwork & varnish.

Sakonnet or Menemsha.

With respect for witsendfl, I think it is too heavy for the Sourpuss.

Red sky at night. . .

IMO I think the NAUSET is the way.

JB or Bigshot,
Who knows who is right. Is there a HP rating on that motor? Are all Bearcats the same. Previous threads have spoken of 55 Bearcats being hung on a 13. I think probably 40 HP should be the max but who knows...

Bill B. come and get it or it can make its way north as you know

I had a 55 hp when I got my 69 Nauset (back in 1974)... After many years use, I was able to obtain the 85 hp Bearcat... Both engines weigh in within 15 lbs of each other(280 lbs for the 85) and use the same controls... The 55hp Bearcat was marginal for skiing, but just fine for everything else... The 85hp is the perfect engine match for the 16/17 footers... Check with Scott Stewart for more info/parts for the 55... Globe Rubber Co. makes a good replacement water pump impeller for it (part #223 I believe)...Most of the other parts X-reference to readily available parts for other auto's... Scott can help ya with that...
