Just found this site. I notice that in a discussion of rare Whalers the name "Tashmoo" is thought to have come from some inland lake. More likely it came from "Lake Tashmoo", a salt pond on the north shore of Martha's Vineyard, just a few miles East of Menemsha.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. It seems much more likely that the boat was named after a point halfway between "Menemsha" and "Katama" than some midwest lake. Regards, Geraldo
