What is the difference between the [many various brands of GPS Mapping Data] cards? Does it make any difference what part of the country you are in? Which one provides the most detail in the Alaska area? I noticed that some manufacturers don't use cards but a internal program. I'm confused and just want the best. |

The best is Nobeltec Passport Charts. They are CD charts used on a PC or laptop. I run them on a Laptop which is kept in the cabin with a waterproof Sunlite Display mounted at the helm.... http://www.nobeltec.com/ They do Alaska in two areas. |

Did a lot of looking around and settled on a C-Map based chartplotter (Standard 150C). I considered the proprietary charts (Garmin Blue Chart, etc), but the C-Map NT charts work among more manufacturers and I like that. |

Check out http://www.navionics.com/Usa/Catalog/alaska_xl.asp They have 1 XL chart that covers all of SE Alaska. I think they run $299 for XL scale. Caveat - I'm still GPS free. |
