I'm new a boater and on my first run today my prop, or rather I hit a rock and one of the blades got bent. Can this be repaired or am I in for a new one? The prop is on a 1995 40-HP Mercury. Thanks GW

Unless you realy wiped it out it can be repaired much cheaper than buying a new one.

You don't mention the material construction of the propeller or its replacement price. This will affect the economics of repair.

But as Dick mentions, you can generally get them rebuilt for less than a new propeller.

The exception would be certain composite composition propellers that are throw-away's.

grw66 -

H & H Propeller in Salem is probably the best known and respected shop in MA.

They pick up and drop off on a weekly basis from many local marine stores in eastern MA.

I have also used New England Propeller in Boston with good results.

If you spun the hub when you hit the rock it may be cheaper to get a new prop rather than replace the hub and fix the prop. A new aluminum prop will cost bout $100, stainless will be a whole lot more.

Thank you all for your advice. The prop was made of aluminium and I brought it to a mariner this morning in scituate, Ma. There ordering me a new one for about $75 to $90 and sending the old one out for repair for about $45. I figure a spare prop isn't the worst thing to have around. Also it was brand new. They say it takes about a week for the repair prop to come back so it's probable going to that place in salem, Ma. Thanks for all your help. Gary
