I wouldn't worry about the weight too much. I repowered my 16'7 this past year with an Evinrude FICHT 75 (V-4 362lbs) and the boat runs great. I moved my battery and oil tank into the console and gas tanks are under the seat. The boat sits balanced in the water and does not porpoise until you get to an extreme trim point. Great torque, 39mph with 2 people (1 very big) and excellent gas mileage in the 6mpg range. Tully Mars |

K: I have a 70 hp 2S Yamaha on the back of my 1969 Nauset. Using GPS, running an honest 38-39 mph. Bumpy boat, no reason to go any faster.Suzuki makes a nice 4S (70 hp), not too heavy. Hobie |

I have a 84 17" super sport with a Yamaha 100 4s. i would not be happier, wot 47 to 50 mph. It is a little heavy in the stern but no handeling problems.OD |

Discussion about repowering have been going on for years in the PERFORMANCE forum. I would like to keep that policy going. Please move this discussion to the PERFORMANCE forum where it can join literally hundreds of others that talk about repower of the 16-foot hull. If you have a boat made in 1967 it is a "16" foot model. The designation changed to "17" with the redesign of the hull in c.1976. --jimh Moderator |
