We have a trip to Desolation Sound in British Columbia planned for the week of 9-17 of August. I would like to hear any "tips" for border crossings or "must see" items once we are there. We plan on spending some time at Prideaux Haven. Any input would be welcome. Thanks in advance

Peetmin - I'll be in Desolation Sound that first week, based at Cortes Bay. Call 'Norka' if you see my Montauk, its the one with the kayaks strapped to the sides.

Prideaux is certainly one of the prettiest and most crowded places up there. Worth a stop even if its crowded. You might also like Walsh Cove.

We were up in Desolation last year, and the kids enjoyed swimming in the two freshwater lakes: Cassel Lake in Teakerne Arm (there's a pretty waterfall out of the lake) and Unwin lake, a short hike from Tenedos Bay. Unwin has a cool rope swing, turn left when you get to the lake.

This year we are going to be sure to have a look at Pendrell Sound (famous for warm water, I'm taking a tube) and we have a night scheduled up at Big Bay, where I have not been since Carter was President.

Border issues - all US residents are required to have at least photo id *and* a birth certificate (or a passport) to get back into the US. This includes everyone. A year ago they almost kept my children at the border. When asked who I was to him, my son answered "That's Taylor". What a time to not call me Daddy.

If you are taking the BC ferries as we are (we are trailing up to Campbell River on the 9th) you can make reservations on the BC ferries for $15. Look at https://welcome.bcferries.com/rbi/index.asp .
