after riding in my friend's new 170 montauk this weekend i could'nt help but wonder how much better if it does ride better than the old montauk. My friend matt who has the 170 had a a 1986 before this one and said the new one rode a million times better is this true? the new montauk has a nice vee to it plus she is wider and may be dryer but the old montauk just had that whaler appeal to me. I think that whaler should have amde the new monatuk along with the old montauk.
i have also noticed from looking at a saltydog boat classafied magazine that in the summer of 02 the older montauk was priced at 22,000 with a trailer and a 100 hp yamaha. but then i saw the new montauk which is bigger, deeper and supposedly dryer for a cheaper amonut of only 17,000. this is with a yamaha 90 2s but the difference can't be that much or can it?
thanx for your time

If "ride" is your priority in a fishing boat, the 170 is right for you. That was a big selling point of '56 Cadillacs, too.

I prefer the 17, I think, because it was lighter, more nimble, had more usable room in it, and looked like a Boston Whaler.

I have not found my Montauk wetter than any other 17' boat in the same conditions.
