I bought a 77 21.4 outrage and it needs to be repowered. My options now are twin 60's 4 stroke yamaha or a single 225 4 stroke or 200 4 stroke left hand. Any ideas. Motoring in San Francisco Bay to open ocean. to lakes.

well your power options that you have given should probaly be re-thought. because twin 60's 4s will be slow for offshore. 120 hp will be alright but when you 120 or 200 there is a big difference. offshore use twin's are always better becasue it is far safer and the ride is better as well. you should look in a yamaha 4s the that is a little bit bigger. also be sure to check out suzuki/johnson in the market as well. honda is great but you may find a problem with wieght unless you down size the honda a little bit. my advice go with the twin's but make sure you get enought power. also look into efi 90's. they are lighter and sound pretty quiet. you get a pair 115 then. efi 2s have about the same feul eco as a 4s. a 4s or 4s's in your case my also bring down the stern to much. and if your offshore int the pac ocean you don't want to be screin around. so make sure they boat won't sit real stern heavy. if you find that is does i would invest in trim tabs. you should really get trim tabs with wahtever you by if you are running offshore for halibut and stuff. play it safe
god luck in your search

Good advice. I have a 1977 21 Revenge with twin Yamaha C85. They are basically 90 hp engines. They are 2 stroke so they are lighter than 4 stroke and you have enough power with one to get home in pretty rough slop. I would have to wonder about limping home with one 60 hp engine. Are you bound by a law that says you have to buy 4 stroke or is that just your preference? Good luck.

Please begin a new thread in the Performance section. Repowering questions are extensively discussed in that forum.

I don't think you would want to go with twins on a 21' boat... Especially when you think about resale.
You can't deny the 225 Yamaha 4 stroke. That's what I would go with, it's hard to find a motor with a better reputation at this time.
