Yesterday, I decided to give making a model of my Outrage 22' a try. The only problem is that I've never done it before, so I found a guy in town who loves wood boats and makes boat models and teaches the craft. When I contacted him I figured he might give me the old heave-ho, since the motto on his card is:
"If it aint wood, it aint a boat!"
I told him that I wanted to build a model of my boat but it isn't a wood boat, to which he said - "If it aint wood, it aint a boat!". At least he's consistent! But he asked me what kind of boat I have and I told him Boston Whaler.
He said that Whalers are a different story and that he had been in the Coast Guard in the mid 60's and Boston Whalers had saved his bacon more than once.
He seems anxious to give it a try, I'm away from home so when I'm back, I'm bringing her down for him to look over and see how it goes. I guess that Whalers are givin dispensation from being a "hideous plastic boat" by guys that have "been there, done that" and these boats can hold a place in the heart of an otherwise wood only boat lover.
