I bought a 13 ft with a 48 hp 95' Evinrude 2 stroke...sweet boat for the lake, marsh and sound where I use it, but the darn thing has to be lifted by hand. Try to lift it from in the boat, my back is still talking to me after a week. Anyone have a suggestion????

One option is a tilt & trim bracket made by CMC. They are a little pricey $4-5 hundred dollars in the Overtons catalog. It will eliminate the lifting you're talking about. Mmore importantly, you will be amazed at the benefit of trim while under way. The amount of speed/rpm you can pick up by properly triming the motor is amazing.

If you're on a tighter budget, I've seen bars that mount to motors to give you that extra leverage needed to lift those heavier motors not equipped with power tilt or trim. Try Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops.

Had that exact set-up and so did my buddy. I assume this is the motor with a hydraulic "assist" tilt. (You raise or lower the motor and set its position by way of a flip lever.) If it is, you can replace that with power tilt and trim. I bought a rebuilt unit from my mechanic. The hardest part was removing the old unit. As I remember one bolt had to be cut and driven out.

My buddy lived with his manual for years. He got very good at using reverse to lift the motor ("unlock" the motor and reverse just enough to get the motor to lift, then lock where you want it).

We both still run the 13's, they are great marsh boats, but both have repowered (50's with power tilt).

Good Luck
Chris

Thanks for the replies. I am trying to find a rebuilt tilt and trim.....So far $250 plus install seems like the best deal. I had not thought about triming on the run, so I feel better about spending the money. I need to hear the story about raising the motor by putting it in reverse..
