Can I really pick my 18 outrage and engine up by the lifting eyes. I want to apply new bottom paint and it is on a trailer right now. I have a loader tractor sitting right here waiting to help and want to know if it they will hold. I was thinking of running heavy line under the boat but this would be a lot easier. Thanks

The owners manual states: CAUTION- If using a single point lifting system, the apex of the bridle must be high enough above the gunwale to provide lifting angles from the eyes to prevent distortion of the the lifting eyes and stainless steel shanks. Avoid using hooks which are too large for the eyes. If necessary, attach shackles to the lifting eyes to accommodate larger hooks. So, I would say with enough headroom and the right size sling, yes. Of major importance: The common lift ring/point of the three cables to the lifting eyes must be reasonably over the center of gravity (c/g) of the boat/engine/fuel/etc immediately prior to the lift. The reason is that the c/g will, by definition, be directly under the common lift point during the lift. If the bow or stern cables are too short, the boat will tilt until the c/g is directly under the common lift point.

The location of the c/g is generally unknown - but a good first guessing point is about one-third of the boat length from the transom. Consequently, make the bow cable length adjustable and adjust until the boat comes off the trailer reasonably level.

Another significant point - use 1/4 or 5/16 cables - they don't stretch and won't break under your load. Don't use nylon ropes !!! - they stretch - which shifts the load point.

This subject has been addressed maybe a year ago - you should be able to review those threads. ---- Jerry/Idaho
