A few years back we had a 1979 3500 Chevy pickup, we used it for a work truck, plowing, towing ect....

The thing was all rusted and the seat was falling threw the floor boards. So, we had it cut in half. The cab was junked. But we had someone weld a tung to the bed so we could use it as a trailer, we call it our "pickup truck trailer."

On the bumper of the trailer we’ve got a ball that we used for towing[back when it was a truck]. Could we take our new truck, {2002 Dodge 2500} and pull the pickup truck trailer with my 11 foot Boston Whaler attached to that?

I'm almost sure that it would work, but what would a cop think about the whole thing?

I'm asking this because I just finished loading the the truck/boat up for our trip to Maine. Within the next year we will be going to FL and NJ by car, and it would be nice to have the extra space.

Thanks for any replys that you may have,
Ryan.

Ryan,

That sort of trailer rigging (towing a trailer behind a trailer) is legal in some states and not in others. Your father will have to check the regulations in each state you intend to pass through.

I've seen several pickups with 5th wheel trailers pulling boats recently in Michigan. But I've never seen a double conventional hitch trailer setup. Might want to check with the state police in your state for laws regarding this.

"Piggy backing" used to be illegal in NJ, not sure if it still is.

In some of the states where it's legal, you need a special
driver license.

Legal or not, I don't think I would want to do it. Imagine the fun if you hit the brakes hard on a bit of a slick surface....
