I am soon to replace the standard rub rail on my boat, and am considering using the heavy duty (commercial) rub rail. I have heard that the heavy duty rails weigh significantly more, and that you can actually tell the difference in the way the boat handles. Any first hand knowledge? Thanks in advance, |

Tom The heavy duty rub rails do weigh more than the standards but does the added weight affect the performance? I hardly think so. If it does it is well worth the sacrifice. Dick |

I took a look at rubrails.com. Their rubrails look ok but are not as beefy as Whaler OEMs. I priced out a set for my Montauk and it came to $230.00. The rub rail is listed as available in 20' incriments so I assume that there will be a seam at the bow. The Whaler OEM kit is one piece, includes the insert and enough rivits to install it. My cost sheet is from 2000 but at that time the Montauk kit would have sold for under $200.00, a 15' kit for about $160.00. I think it would be worth the extra couple bucks, if any, to order the real Whaler rub rail. Dick |

I put on a shiney sleek new rubrail. I got it from Sue @ Twin City Marine out of Wisconsin. Yep, it was like so heavy duty, it took 3 men to hold it up and install. The boat sits about 8 inches lower in the water. ;0 Sue will set you strait "or me" @ 920 793-2715 www.twincitiesmarine.com |
