I know there was a V20 Outrage which had a different hull than a 88 Outrage 20 for example, but is a 1978 Outrage 22 the same as a 90 Outrage 22? If not, which year did they change? My search seems to see a change in fuel capacity from 70 to 77, and a weight increase of 100 pounds at some point, but the length, beam, and draft stay constant (if if not made mistake). Thanks

The 1978 V-22 is the same as the Outrage 22 of later years. The name changed, that's all.

As for the V-20, there continues to be confusion as to what this means. The V-20 *IS* an Outrage 20. Both names were used by Whaler when the boat was first introduced in 1977. The V-20 and V-22 labels were meant to help distinguish these new deep-V hulls from the earlier Outrage/Revenge 19 and 21 "banana" boats.

Once the last of the 19's and 21's were produced in 1980, Whaler dropped the V-20 and V-22 labels altogether.

While the Outrage 20 was redesigned for the 1986 model year, it is a mistake to differentiate the two hulls by making a distinction between "V-20" and "Outrage 20". The original 20' Outrage was produced from 1980 to 1985 with the Outrage 20 name but without the V-20 label.

When the 24' 7" hull was introduced in 1980 it was called the Outrage 24. The next year the name was changed to Outrage 25. It was never called a "V-24" and the hull desgion remains the same even today (as the Guardian and Challenger CGP models)

Tom and Mustang, Thanks so much I have been trying to figure this out for months and could not get a straight answer. Thanks again. I have a 79 V20 and in the boatyard by my boat, on land is a 1984 22. The hulls are so different. The 22 has a deep v with full length chine V's. My boat has a shallow V with partial chine V's that is not the full length and is far less substantial than the chine V's of the 22. Basically I am saying that these boats seem to me to be radically different below the waterline, but really similar above. Has anybody noticed this and is the ride as different as I suspect?

Jamie, you have the same exact boat as mine.
Your right, our boats are much flatter then the 22 of later years.
Our boats will pound much more then the later models, but much faster because of the flatter bottoms.
Our boats are supposed to be the same as the 22' boats but if you look at the bottoms at the stern [ stand back about 20' ] you will see much more deadrise [ deeper "V" ] on the 22 compared to ours.
