I have a 95 13 dauntless with side rails. Can anyone recommend a place to get a bimini top? Whaler wants a fortune.

Thanks,

RKP

rkp,

I have a 97 13 dauntless that I had a custom top made for.
It was about $500.00 in ss and canvas. I had the top made larger and taller than the factory one as we have too much sun in Florida. I also didn't want to drill into the boat so they used ss bow rail clamps to mount the top as well as the struts that hold the top up when not open. The front straps have a separate 3" strap with two loops at the end that go around the bow rail for the front straps to hook to.
The only holes I had to drill were the two on top of the windshield grab rail to support the anti sway straps. I have had the top for four years now and it works great.

Good luck,
Brian

PS.
If you have a top made be sure to have it tall enough to stand under as some tops on the smaller whalers are sit under tops only.

My only other whaler was a '62 13 footer. The 13 Dauntless is a much drier and smoother ride. I can't really compare too much because my 13' had an old 20 horse and the Dauntless has a really nice 3 cylinder 50 hp. I like the more freeboard and more room. I even took the Dauntless to Oregon Inlet, its a hell of a boat.

My 13 Dauntless would not plane correctly tillI put 100 lb of sand baags in the front anchor well, after that, she steps up on to planer and runs like a scalded ape

I have the original 97 50 hp 3 cyl Yamaha and my 13 Dauntless planes fine with just me or up to four adults and one child. The ride is as dry and steady as you can get for a 13 footer.
