The triangular bow locker on my 15' 87' Sport CC is always at least partly full after every rain storm. The inner bow contours act as a perfect funnel for directing rainwater into the bow locker. My anchor and line sit in this soup till I pump it out. This seems like a fundamental design flaw, unless I'm missing something. They could have formed a drain channel around the opening, or drained into the cockpit. The drain hole in the locker is below the waterline, so it only works while under way. Has anyone tried installing a weatherstrip or similar gasket to keep rain out?On a similar note, the two drain holes in the transom always let a little water slop into the transom well, leaving little puddles of sea growth. Do most people plug these up with corks or expanding plugs? I can't see what purpose they serve, other than draining water out in a heavy following surf.

I have the same problem with my 15' Super Sport Ltd. Have wondered why BW did not mold a lip into the deck or gasket the cover and, like you, see it as a design oversight. Still thinking of getting gasket material for the cover. The problem here in Florida is the constant high humidity so any sealed space will develop mold quickly. After getting tired of draing the locker I now just leave the plug out. The only thing I keep there is the extra anchor. I carry 12 gals. in a tank behind the seat and have two batteries on either side of that so, along with my 230#, have pleanty of weight in the stern. At rest the bow locker is dry and on a typical day gets little water. My motor well drains are also underwater at rest. With the 15 and 16-17's I think you just have to live with the motor well problem. Bigshot had the same problem with his old Montauk especially after installing the 70hp four stroke. |

Need to correct that last post. Two batteries total. One starter and a deep cycle. |

I have the same problem on my '87 15ft Center Console. Is it meant to be a live bait-well? Anyone know? If not it works great as one. As for the transom area, I'm sure it's a design function, 13ft's have the same thing, but you're right, it's a small puddle that develops a greenish growth on my fiberglass on a regular basis. However, if you have frozen bait, throw it back there and let it thaw. JN. |
