Well,

Just wanted to let you all know that the "Ofishally Hooked" (23' Boston Whaler Conquest) won the tournament this past weekend with a 29.4 pound gag grouper. Beating out other owners of Albamarle, Grady White, and Key West in the offshore division.

In a day where the seas were supposed to be 2 foot or less, NOAA missed it by about 4 feet. After a smooth 50 mile run Saturday morning we turned home into a North wind of 20knots and 4-6 foot seas. It was a long ride but cruised nice and dry at 20-23knots.

I can tell you this, will power will do wonders for your boating. Final weigh in time was 4pm, and at 2:20 pm we were 25nm offshore when the starboard engine oil pump began beeping. After idling for 15 minutes and checking out the engine, I decided (as captain) to pre-mix the rest of the fuel in the engine and crank it up. Thus, we headed home getting to the weigh in 15 minutes before close.

Coincidentally nobody caught a dolphin (mahi - mahi) for that category so our 1.6 lb chicken dolphin earned us another division and fishing rod.

On the way back to the ramp the starboard engine gave out, so Killinger get's the extended warranty repair work.

I left around 230 to try to get into Sherman Cove before the sky gave out. It was CHOPPY trying to get back in but my 170 Montauk did so well in the swells that my 2 1/2 year old fell asleep on the RPS!

When I left the Grady White was leading with a Cobia. Puny fish only one caught up to that point.

I chose to eat the Shrimp and listen to Mr Madden play Buffet tunes....

Hmm, we may have to just go catch some before the roundup!! The grouper has already been consumed...

Thanks

I have had a few emails for another Whaler roundup in Southern AL / NW FL, maybe we ought to get a new thread going in the Rendezvous for one.
