As you may have seen on my other thread, I'm looking to purchase a Montauk hull and put on a newer 90 yamaha 4stroke.
How much can I expect it to cost for the install, controlls, gauges and anything else I might need? Thanks.

Anywhere from $400 to $1,000 depending on just what new gadjets you have to install.
Changine the engine is the easiest part, it's the new binnacal that might be bigger & the dash needs to be cut, the new water preasure guage that you didn't have before, [ another hole to cut into the dash ].
The new control cables need to be run & the old ones removed & what about that NFB steering you have been wanting.
The tech is going to charge you a minimum of $75.00 per hour & more likely $90.00 per if you anywhere near Calif.

Unfortunately Yamaha is the most expensive to mount. They cahrge a friggin fortune for key switches, wiring harnesses, etc. The Tach is like $350. Try E-Bay for parts. The yamaha control is actually smaller than OMC and some others. You may have to put a piece of starboard under it.

Since I just repowered, here's a few numbers for you:
* remove old engine, 1.0 hr
* clean up controls & transom, 1.0 hr
* mount new motor, 3.0 hr (fwiw, that seems a bit high to me)
* install smartcraft, 1.25 hr
* install new control box & wiring harness, 2.75 hrs
* run ddt checkout, .75 hr
Obviously, what this means in $ depends on your local hourly rate--in Portland, OR, that worked out to be $65/hr.
Although I stayed with a Mercury outboard, I wanted a new control box, control cables, wiring harness and keyswitch--all the old components (except control cables) were original with the boat, and I think (in this case) it would have been false economy to not replace them. This upped the price by a few hundred $ more than it had to be, but cie la vie. Also, all rigging was properly routed thru the rigging tunnel (old control cables were routed along the gunnel)
