All:

Recently I watched the new surf film “Step into Liquid” now out on DVD, which I absolutely loved. While there are many impressive feats in the film, I particularly like the part about “supertanker” surfing in Texas. These guys pack their boards into a Whaler (it looked like an Outrage 18 but I’m not sure) with specially built racks and ran the wakes of supertankers along the gulf coast. There were several scenes that featured the Whaler. The boat shadowed the riders during the long run and picked up those who wiped out. You guys should check it out. I also wonder if any of the owners in Texas know these guys or if the owner of the boat is a member of this forum.

An awesome movie! Great camera work... see it even if you aren't a surfing fan. I wanted to see IMAX version of movie last summer but was quite happy to see it on DVD a while back. Kevin

What about the new Hemi Durango commercial hauling a whaler? Just saw it for the first time yesterday.

Step Into Liquid had a short theatrical distribution, and I am sorry I missed it on a big screen.

I think the beginning of the Italian Job features an 18 outrage.

What do you guys think?

Actually, "The Italian Job" is one of my all time favorite movies (next to Ronin and The Big Blue) and the Outrage at the begining is one beautiful boat. I must have watched that opening chase sequence in the canals of Venice a thousand times. I have to admit that the brightwork on the classic Whalers really looks sharp!

The appearance of Boston Whaler boats in movies has been discussed in many previous threads. The Italian Job is a recent example of a cinematic appearance of a Boston Whaler boat. Of course, Striking Distance staring Bruce Willis, a 1993 movie that gave the Boston Whaler GUARDIAN 27 more screen time than co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, is often known as "The Boston Whaler Movie."

Most notable was the appearance of the OUTRAGE 25 WHALE LURE, on charter from LHG to a movie production company, in a made-for-TV movie for CBS.

For big screen Whaler action, it's hard to beat "Striking Distance". The main Guardian 27 in that movie was actually for sale a earlier this year at a Cape Cod marina.

Step Into Liquid played to sold out houses for several weeks here in Santa Cruz when the film first opened. To really experience this film, you have to see it on the big screen in a classic old-style theater packed with amped-up surfers. The tanker wake surfing scenes were great, and the use of a Whaler in them does not surprise me. I know of a few Whalers that are used to boat in to difficult to reach surf spots, something I've got to do one of these days. Years ago, I used to take my old 13 to get out to uncrowded surf at Nauset Inlet when my rusty old Jeep was on the fritz. We also used to "skurf" behind it when the surf was flat, using ordinary surfboards and a ski rope. This was long before wakeboarding was a mainstream sport.

In 'The Italian Job', I'm guessing it's the 22' Outrage with the Super Console option.

I have an '86 20' Outrage, and a stern seat in my boat would be way to close to the RPS.

Thus, I believe it's a 22'.

Here's a picture from the film, who concurs / disagrees?

'The Italian Job' would have been better if the Mercury outboard actually sounded like a two stroke outboard. They added sound to make it have the voice of a big block V8.

Actually Ryan, a big Mercury V6 does sound a bit like a big block V8, particularly when idling down the harbor. Have you ever run one?
