I had a Uniden Oceanus VHF Radio installed and cannot get the weather channels (channels 1-9) to receive...had the unit installed by the dealer 70 miles away and thought that I would try here before going back. Thanks in advance for any/all assistance. Best. JoJo |

Did you try turning the squelch control all the way down first? BillS |

Does it receive normal VHF? Does it make a bunch of white noise if you turn the volume up

It makes a bunch of white noise if the volume is up and the squelch is down to nothing. Haven't tried to check send and receive yet...thought I could get the weather first....boat has two hours on it and I want to do everything right to save myself embarrassment. Suggestions? Thanks so much for your response. Best. JoJo |

I have the same model (Uniden Oceanus VHF Radio ) and it I am not sure how to make the thing receive the weather channels either...but I have found that if I poke two of the buttons at the same time...and sometimes I have to do it twice, it kicks in. Since I don't have the radio in front of me at the moment, I can't remember which two buttons only to say the first two starting at the left. I can tell you that I am not overly please with the radio. It quit working within the first 10 days of ownership and when I returned it to the dealer I was greeted with "we will have to ship it back to Texas to the manufacturer"...no refunds, no exchanges. I have since had to ship it back again for repairs and in both cases they replaced the microphone. It seems that if you spit on it, the thing will short out. I now have it mounted inside my console and the microphone is enclosed in a plastic bag with a "stay dry" packing absorbent pack and secured with a rubber band. Mike |

Naples Mike: thanks for the insight...I will try your solution...sounds like my warranty will be important! My family has a home in Pelican Bay and hope to see you on the water at the end of this month and in June....best. JMD |

White noise says the audio section works. Are you anywhere there are other boaters and the CG? If so, I'd guess either an antenna problem, or some really wierd Unidens have never been my favorite radios.

I would call the president of Uniden. Tell him that his company is so screwed up that people who buy Uniden radios have to use a Boston Whaler forum to find out how to operate them. |

Jimh: I am sorry if I have abused this Whaler site for this issue; again, my apology. JoJo |

JoJo, Looking foward to seeing you in Naples, give me a hollar and I will put you on some good fishn' holes. No apology required. If it's on a Boston Whaler...it is fair game, unless it relates to fishn'. Jim is right, Uniden is a messed up company from my point of view. I have not checked to see if they have a support site, but as I type this...I will check. Sure enough they do have a support site that can be found at the following link: http://uniden.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/uniden.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=6Yr6FRFh Good Luck, Mike |

Which antenna connector was bad? The one on the radio? |

Won't know the answer to your question until Clemons Boats delivers a new antenna on Monday for installation....otherwise, the problem would point directly to the radio....I am having it looked at by a local marina this weekend for troubleshooting and will update you. thanks. Best. JoJo |

It turned out when the technician put the connection on the wire to the radio he overzealously clammed down to mate the wire to the connector and caused a short. I took off the connector and reinstalled it after doing some surgery on the wire. Now the radio works great. Wish to thank everyone for walking me through this. Best. JoJo |

I bought a UNIDEN OCEANUS DSC a couple of weeks ago. UNIDEN's customer service is practically non-existant. I wanted to hook up my GARMIN GPS for DSC. I finally got help and succeded because someone in this great forum helped me. No help from UNIDEN. I also bought it because they advertise that you can flush mount it on your dash. In the manual, they tell you that you have to get a flush mounting bracket FMB322, AFTER you bought the radio. But that part does not exist in their store. They do not answer my e-mails. I also sent a card to get the $20 rebate and I got an e-mail telling me that they need for me to send them the "UPC" code. But that was not asked for in the rebate card. I hope you get your weather channels to come in. If I have the same problem, and if I get them to come in I will post the solution. I am going to the Pamlico sound for two weeks in July, with a new boat, and I was counting on this radio. |

I agree wholeheartedly; still my problems persist...I told the dealer today that I am furious that he talked me out of a ICOM VHF....at his expense of repair which he agreed to pay. |

I was talked out of an ICOM radio, too, and ended up with a Uniden Oceanus. It was a total piece of junk. About a year later, I was back on the market for a new radio. I now have an ICOM. Don't let your Uniden get wet. It will not survive the experience. The mike sensor in mine went bad (from moisture, I suspect). It was still under warranty, but they told me the warranty only covered parts, not labor. The price for the labor wasn't worth the trouble of uninstalling it, packing it up, sending it to them, waiting weeks, then reinstalling what I knew was an unreliable piece of junk. So I asked them to send me the part so that I could install it myself, but they wouldn't do that. If anyone wants a barely used Uniden Oceanus with a bad mike sensor ($2.00 part), I'll sell it cheap. LINO: Google: Uniden FMB322 That will get you two dealers who at least CLAIM to be able

LINO: all the info need to hook it up was in the VHF and GPS manuals. It just requires understanding NMEA. The real problem is that there is no industry

CHUCK, I did the search on Google. the two websites are one and the same. Anyway, I ordered the UNIDEN OCEANUS flush mounting kit (FMB322) from Star Marine Electronics. They said they had it in stock. We'll see. Thanks for your help, once more. Lino |
