Trying yo get a handle on these 2 models , Restoring a 1968 Nauset that has Evinrude controls, understand originally this boat had a MT2 , What are the differences between the MT2 and MT3 will these both be the same amount of effort to switch over from the Evinrude controls?

I dealt with this same thing. First question is where did it break? I snapped mine off flush with the knob. I found replacement stainless steel arms at West Marine for around 52 dollars. I assumed that they will fit the MT2 box. I believe the MT3 has a longer more slender arm, but I do not know. I believe I have a set I purchased off ebat. I ended up repairing our box by purchasing a reproduction slag glass knob and epoxing it to the end of old arm. It cost me 15 dollars to repair.

You know, i just reread this and realized that you didnt break your handle, you are trying to understand the difference in the MT2 and the MT3. I didnt help you at all. The difficulty in switching back and forth depends on the motor and the previous box. Did they have to cut a new hole or alter the old one? With the MT2s atleast you are going to have to run red jacket cables, it may or may not require and adapter kit. You may or may not have them already. Do you have a built in trim switch? If not and your motor has electric trim you need to find a trim switch and find a place to mount it. In the picture I posted you can see theres a piece of mahagony mounted underneath the box, I had to add that to make up for the altered mounting from the previous box.

You gave Me a good laugh , read the 1st response and thought gez worded that wrong then read the 2nd
The wood I have is going to be to hard to redo so I am starting from scratch and buiding all new interior. It now has Evinrude binical controls with a tilt switch ,so I know at least I will have to rework that. What I am trying to get a "grip" on is there an advantage one over the other as far as the MT's go What is the white box an electrical box in picture #30?

I really dont know if there is an advantage between the two, I am suprised someone else hasnt stepped in here. Yes, the white box box is for the motor. It was the standard gray but it was looking pretty nasty so I sanded it down and gave it a new look.

I'm pretty sure that the MT3 is just a technologically advanced version of the now obsolete MT2, but I don't know what the specific changes were. It seemed like Joe Kris had exploded fews of each of them somewhere.

Keeping with my two reply trend, I went ahead and googled it. This is on description I found:
"Morse MT-3 controls replace MT-2 controls. Comes with neutral safety switch. Built in friction drag helps prevent slippage and throttle creep while underway. Features longer shift travel for certain Mercruisers or longer runs with many bends in cable mounting. Uses the following cables: 33C, 33C Supreme and 43C."

and I saw a short blurp from a defunct website saying that the MT2 was not as "deep" but had a wider base than the MT3. I believe that, like I said I purchased what I think is a MT3 off ebay. Its not labeled, I havent compared the two. The MT3 seems to have a slightly longer arm. They both require the same cables, which more than likely will require you to have a adapter kit at the motor to hook them up. It is pretty easy, just may take you a little time.

I used the Morse MT3 in my restoration project without any problems. I used red jacket cables and the end attachment kit for my specific brand of motor (Mariner). For "Tilt&Trim" I utilized the "Pro" type switch which mounts on the black plastic bezel for the steering wheel. that arrangement works great!

John, I had the window open for awhile. I agree with that you said.
CaptJohn, Id like to see your trim switch. I bought an OMC switch that comes with a black switch plate that looks pretty crappy with the rest of the boat. Not a big deal, I just havent thought of anything better looking as of yet.
