April 2, 2006 at 2:00 a.m., I will set my clock forward and enjoy an additional hour of daylight as I putter around in my whaler. I can hardly wait, just over a week away! |

What the hell do you need an extra hour for puttering around on your Montauk, Rob. She's done, finished, showroom, new motor, eat off her deck, dock lines wormed, parcelled and served...face it, it's time for a new Whaler. I can store yours at my house to save you some expense, and I'll even take her out for you every now and then just to keep the batteries charged. Tony |

I keep my compass watch on DST all year long, stays there, never set back - "fall back" doen't apply. Agree my favorite day of the year is Spring Forward and the worst day is Fall Back. One Day Closer to Summer. |

Rob, We get to set our clock forward this coming Sunday, 26 March. Now I hope it starts warming up around here cause it still feels like winter. Erik |

This will be a good day and all, but the best? I think not. Nothing I've seen can compete with the dayes leading up to and peaking at the boating related festivities surrounding July 4th (in the US anyways...) |

That Sammie sure is photogenic! I, on the other hand, nearly missed my flight this morning because I forgot about the time change! Thank goodness traffic on Sunday morning isn't bad. If I blew your doors off on the Kennedy Expressway this morning, my apologies...but I made my flight! |

Thanks Buckda - she's a real sweetheart and loves that whaler of mine almost as much as I do. Two things get that tail of her going - breaking out the old shotgun for a little bird hunting or the fly rod which of course means the whaler and H2O. Glad to hear you made that flight of yours... Pete |

We just lost a whole day yesterday flying from Hawaii to Fiji. We left at 0035 hours March 8th and arrived six hours later at 0645 March 9th! Man oh man...at my age the loss of even one day is worrisome. Abajo, international dateline! Of course, if I went in the other direction... Nothing of Whaler note to share yet, but here are a couple of photos--one of which has some Whaler significance--to show that my little two-bit Sony is still functioning, even in the incredible humidity. Thanks, ff. Not to derail your yearly daylight savings time celebration or nuthin', Rob, but here's a short YouTube video of how I spent some of my time on our family land on Kaua'i last week (when we weren't body surfing and drinking kava): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDWrvTDZA9c Tony (Hope this link works) |

Back in 2006 when you started this thread, Rob, daylight savings time switchover was April 2nd, your "favorite day." Only the Good Lord knows why it's March 13th this year, but Saturday, April 2, 2011, is my favorite day of the year, and should be yours as well, for a reason many times more important than a mere change of time: It's OPENING DAY OF SALMON SEASON in northern California!! Still very cold and wet up here but at least its brighter a bit longer as well a nice reminder that at some point the sun has no choice but to finally bring some nice felling heat and light we all look forward to every year on our fine boats. |

Your day is not longer. An apt comparison I saw the other day is this: Daylight Savings Time is like cutting the top foot off your blanket and sewing it onto the bottom and saying you have a longer blanket. Until recently, only Bureaucrats thought this way. |

9 degrees F (-13 C)this morning and they expect snow again tomorrow here in SW Michigan. Spring is suppose to start Thursday but it doesn't look that way. I couldn't get the boat out of storage with more than 1 foot (30 cm) of hard packed snow in front of the Quonset hut out building. We did have sun this weekend and it is still light when coming home in the evening. I need to repair a ding in the brow and can't do it as the temp never gets above 45F Sometimes winter suck. |

Buckda what a great concept. What can we do to make that happen for us still working folks. More daylight in the afternoon but still snow and ice in front of the Quanset hut with the Whaler stored dry but in-accessible. Slightly above freezing doesn't work here in SW Michigan as the water on most inland lakes and even the Great Lakes is still to hard to boat. Again Winter Sucks. |

Yes, made great use of favorite day. When boat hunting for another project...looks like I may have a 13 on the way. Out here in the PNW, Spring started a few weeks ago, actually mowed the grass on Feb 21st...which is rather stunning. The cherry blossom trees have been out for 1 week already. My guess is a great spring and early summer will lead to a grey and damp late summer and fall. |
