Built in 89. Served San Diego Navy Seals til GSA Auction Feb 06. Restoration target: Provide rescue towing, crew boat and recreation on the lower Columbia River. twin reversing 90 Black Max 150's mounted on 5" offset manual adjustable jackplates + a spare RH 150 (did not burn). All SS props were inside the house for some reason. Being 0230 am, they are suspicious of arson but lack any motive. so be it. The garage is insured for 10% of the house value...the boat was not licenced or insured yet. I knew it needed a separate policy. My bad. The fire was so hot, it melted the alum console and fwd deck plate which poured thru the fwd drain hole into a splattered puddle beneath the boat. It melted the trailer frame & one jack plate. After getting hot enough to melt the console, melt the engine right off the transom, a 988 Cat loader cannot pancake this boat!!! http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o242/towboatr/22atthedump17.jpg Even the roller cant flatten this boat. Again, this was a real deal USN Seals boat, I knew it was "waterlogged" but from now on, I couldnt care less if a BW is waterlogged or not, I dont think you could fill a 5 gal can with it. michael k one of these days I will figure out how to tag the url |

Oh, the pictures make me sick, and I'm not the owner! Like others, I feel for you and the loss of a fine whaler. When the earthquake hit here last October 15th, I had the cover on my 18' Guardian tied down with the straps that come with it. When I checked out the boat, I noticed, that out of twelve straps, eight were ripped through and hanging in the breeze. My boat is right by the Kawaihae Harbor that substained major damage. Shake rattle and roll. I did feel a cold chill down my spine just looking at the straps. Nothing like what you felt going through such a sad thing as a garage fire that took your whaler. |

thanks for the condolances everybody, lessons learned, alls well....moving on. Im not looking for any sympathy here, only telling the story & document just how well built BWs are. my point, after almost 100% of the interior integrity was burned, the bow still had enough strength in it to hold up a 988 Cat loader...which underlines Tom Clarks little leap into the Pacific in a 22. wish I had that link. |
