To all, With much help from the family here on continuouswave I am happy to report that my first complete rebuild of a classic Whaler is finished! It turned out better than I would have ever expected. Couldn't have done it without the wisdom and inspiration I have found in this community. Please visit my photobucket album to view the [1973 Boston Whaler 19 "Lo-Pro"] restoration Happy Whalin! |

I'd love to see the finished product. I've been planning on a 19' Outrage to Lo Pro conversion as my next project for a while now. |

I wanted to share with everyone pictures of a rebuild that has kept me busy for the past three months. 1973 Boston Whaler 19 Lo-Pro This boat started out its life in 1973 as the infamous 'banana boat', and when I ran across her last fall she needed some major work. Lucky for me she had a newly rebuilt transom and a new fuel tank all she needed was to be taken apart and completely rebuilt from the ground up. The only work that I subcontracted was the actual fibergalss work, although I am pretty handy at boat work I know better than attempt to regelcoat a boat on my spare time. For the fiberglass I turned to Adrian (who is a 2cool legend when it comes to fiberglass and is very excited about classic Whalers). Instead of listing out the laundry list of work I have completed I will breifly detail the major work and let the pictures do the talking. -Sand old gelcoat and replace with OEM colored gelcoat on hull, topdeck and console -Rebuild dash out of black starboard and build custom flush mount electronics box -Refinish original mahogony with 12 coats of K-Spar varnish -Custom front and rear casting decks to make the topdeck flow much nicer than original set up -Rerig wires neatly and replace all hoses and engine harnesses -Update plastic rod holders with aluminum & install leaning post -Only the neccesary electronics, LMS332 & stereo system -And, generally deal with a million other miniscule items that come up when updating a 30+ year old boat to 2007 standards. See the photobucket album. |

Nice job on the restoration of your 1973 Boston Whaler 19 Lo-Pro (Low Profile). It is always fun to see the before pictures, then a beautifully restored boat emerge. |

That is the most beautiful whaler I have ever seen!! I envy you soooo much.. That will be a perfect boat for those Galveston Bay back lakes. |

This is one of my favorite Boston Whaler models. This boat would be fantastic for a number of uses. I always wondered why they didn't build more of these. It seems to be a very rare model. You have done a fantastic job. Thanks for sharing. |

Beautiful job - Best of luck with your newly restored ride! |

Do you have any pictures from the very beginning? I would love to see what it looked like when you first got it. 175 HP... sucker must fly!!!!! |

I had no idea you could take the banana caps off a 19 and make it a low profile. How hard was it to remove the sides. Besides filling holes on the sides what else did you have to do to them? Are the sides original as we see them now or did you have to make modifications to add the rub rail? That would be a worthwhile investment down here in coastal Texas. Awesome job and awesome boat!! re:acassidy It is a pretty simple process to finish out the boat after you take the cap off. The rubrail goes right on perfectly and all you have to do is fill all the holes, reroute the fuel vent and do some glass work on the bench seat if you don't want the mahagony gunnels. I wanted to keep the mahogany gunnels with the rod holders underneath but it wasn't practical because of all the room you give up inside the boat. One other thing I would like to point out is that adding the front casting deck also added about 200 pounds to the bow which makes the boat ride much better than the Lo-Pro without the weight. I don't seem to porpoise at all and I can get out of shallower water because of less bow rise. Thank you all very much for your praises. |

re:JayR I will post the before pictures for you tonight when I get back home, don't have them at the office. |

Really nice job....Classic Whalers make great Bay Boats, a well kept secret in my part of Texas.... |

Great looking boat. I have a 1976 low pro conversion in the works now. I see we had the same ideas forward and aft. I am building a platform on the bow but in the back I went a little different route and made the floor level all the way to the transom. I have mine in a photo bucket too if you care to take a look let me know. I see you built up the transom but it looks like you only filled in the cut out is that enough for a 25” motor I thought I measured a little higher than that for 25 inches. |

HOLY CRAP! IT'S FANTASTIC!!! what a great looking boat! [....................................X.] i give this a 10.0 on the "ooo-la-la" meter!

The original flats boat |

A job well done, congratulations on a beautiful looking boat. Brian |

To steal a phrase I heard describing a low profile: "That is one sexy looking boat!" John |
| ccampb1346 |
re:DangerDan The mahogoany is OEM but the rod holders are custom aluminum I had made up to replace the plastic. I couldn't see refinishing that beautiful mahogoany and then covering it up with ugly plastic rod holders. |

Beautiful job...pure sex! Tony |

Awesome to say the least. Can't wait to see the before pics. Should make for one very interesting comparison. |

ccamp I never heard of the Lo-Pro model. After you removed the cap, did you trim the sides, or is this an original BW model? Coolest Whaler I`ve ever seen, Your pics. are now on my favorites.

There is a pic of this rare model in Jims wonderfull pic library...look her up....Binke |
| ccampb1346 |
Please refer to Cetacea page 37 I did no modification to the integrity of the boat, simply removed the top cap. Did not have to trim anything. I'm simply overwhelmed by the praises I have recieved, as soon as it gets warm there will be plenty of pictures taken on the water. Anyone care to dare a selling price? She is not for sale, just would like to know that what I put in was worth it. |

Down here in the Houston, Galveston bay area 11,000 to 13,000. You would really have a waiting line to buy a boat like that down here and you could ask what you want. I have seen complete restored 21’ Banana Outrages with new power go for 30,000. Still this is a way cool looking boat. Have you thought about a jackplate? Here is my whaler modification. Archie |

Sweet looking rig! Adrien does top notch work,at fraction of the price too.See ya on the back bay this coming season. Best regards, |
| alfred |
Very, very nice. What a great job! I would be scared to actually use it now! LOL! |

Great looking boat! That's the best lo-profile 19 I have ever seen. Congratulations on a job well done! |

I have to say, I LOVE that boat. Also, THAT IS my next project. But, it makes me wonder why no one likes my 15'. Len |

What a GREAT job ! As a former owner of a 73 21! I jusut love the banana look. Congratulations on a great job Lou |
| Ritzyrags |
Congratulations on your "Mission Accomplished" It does look like you have done a great job making it the way you wanted it to be. I will guess that you have picked only one color for the gel coating. |
| Spuds |
With all the talk about Whaler revisiting old hull designs, this is one I think they should make. It would be a great success here in the Texas flats. |
| rjknupp |
That is ONE SEXY [AFT] BOAT! I've wanted to find an original or do the conversion for about four years now. Since the day I first laid eyes on one, I've been in love with that boat. Beautiful Job ! I would go for the T-top, jack plate, Humminbird side-image sonar, and some Lenco Troll n tabs. That's my dream anyhow. Looks like yours came true. |
