It's just beautiful. Any idea what's the price tag on this rig? |
| jimh |
Wow--The 345 CONQUEST looks fabulous. I bet the price will be north of $300,000. Once you get into that range, $20,000 more for the third Verado does not have much impact. I'd get the triple motor option. You can burn regular-grade gasoline with the 250-HP motors, but the twin 275-HP motors would need high-octane fuel. |
| Mambo Minnow |
Beautiful! I wonder in addition to MSRP, how many they plan to manufacture annually? I wonder how big a consumer market there is for them to recoup all the Engineering, Manufacturing and Development costs related to producing this behemoth? |
| jeffs22outrage |
Boy oh Boy, They are looking less and less like a Whaler all the time...Sad. I think they missed the boat on this one (ALL PUNS INTENDED). Sure it is a decent looking boat, it just does not look like a whaler. It may as well say PURSUIT down the side. Then again I like the real thing better..
Just my opinion. |
| jimh |
I can't say for sure it looks just like a Whaler, but it looks like something I want. Oh man, that cockpit and helm are something else! |
| RLwhaler |
Kinda reminds me of one cw member Rory's Vigilant 32..but,with little more sexy curves to to her.;)Boy that's sexy looking boat! |
| sraab928 |
I was thinking the same thing Jim. I totally love the helm and cockpit area. |
| whalerfran |
The integrated hardtop and windows seem a much better design than the typical hardtop with aluminum supports and canvas and eisenglass enclosure. Looks much better, too. |
| Sal A |
I love this boat, and think Whaler is listening. I remember posting on a thread a year or two ago, about wishing that Boston Whaler would recognize the preference of many for a cabin boat. I like the 345 Conquest's lines. Cabin boats are an increasing preference of many, I believe, although I don't have the data to break down boat sale trends to show this. Given the polarization of the US economy, often discussed by the media (Lou Dobbs for one), and Bernanke's admission in testimony yesterday to this fact, I think this boat will have a market indeed. |
| tombro |
Beautiful boat, thanks all for the pics. I noticed a bow thruster on the second pic, which is standard. |
| Sal A |
In reading about its systems and accesories, it does seem Jim might want to add a new forum just for this boat! Maybe Post Post Classics, or Ante Post Classic, or Future Post Classic Non Classic. But more probably the owner of a 345 Conquest will not be posting on a forum seeking DIY help. Maybe the dealers would. |
| erik selis |
Yes, I also think this new Conquest looks beautiful. Erik |
| jimh |
Guillermo (Zpeed7) sent these shots from the Miami Show. They give you a sense of the boat's size--BIG!
It looks like there was plenty of interest in the new model. |
| handn |
This one doesn't have me reaching for my checkbook or more likely pleading with my banker. As a hot weather boater, I like the breeze in my face rather than being in a sealed cacoon with the a.c blasting. Visability through glass is impaired which makes it more difficult to spot fish. Is the pilot house design an aknowledgement that the boat is wet or is the air conditioned pilot house what most boaters want? The swamped capacity is up to 4,000 pounds which is good. I hope my view is in the minority and that BW sells lots of them. |
| Mambo Minnow |
I respectfully do not see how anyone can say it does not at least look like a current Whaler, particularly a Conquest. It has the same hull lines as the 255 Conquest. It appears to me as the logical evolutionary development of the Conquest series in a bigger, cabin model boat. Certainly, no comparison to a classic Revenge series. However, that is not the market this boat seeks to capture. |
| JMARTIN |
Where do you put your tender, up top? John |
| David Pendleton |
I like it. I'm thinking $500,000. The Defiants were 300K and that was years ago. |
| bluewaterpirate |
One of the nicest features on these new Whalers is interior freeboard height (345 has 28") plus the cockpit toe rails. These two features really make a make a big differnce when fighting big fish. The coaming pads a terrific because they are placed at thigh level so this coupled with the toe rails give you the ability to really use some leverage. By the way ..... center cockpit window opens at the bottom. Tom |
| BarryGreen |
Wow! Wonder if this unit is the only one in existence right now. I'm going to be at the Boston Boat Show on Sunday, and it would be neat to be able to see the 345 in person........... Barry |
| TRAFFICLAWYER |
Hopefully,they provided 2nd station capabilities. |
| elaelap |
That graceful swoop emphasized by the rubrail from the bow approximately halfway aft sure reminds me of a Grady White. Anybody else get the same feeling? If I saw that boat half a mile away out at sea I'd glance at her and then keep looking for a real Whaler in the vicinity. Tony |
| Sal A |
I think this boat looks much more like the Wellcraft 25 footer in their Coastal series, which I consider a handsome boat to me. This Whaler will turn heads in my area I believe, including mind. |
| Sal A |
Good lord. Forgive my last post. |
| erik selis |
Watch this: Erik |
| bluewaterpirate |
I want one Dad! |
| Liteamorn |
Great , now I hate my Montauk. |
| Bella con23 |
Great link erik selis! The only question left is how much? I don't think they will have one at the NJ Boat Show next week. |
| KellyHicks |
I saw this in person at the 2007 Miami Boat Show: Price as Shown with the 3-250 Verados was right at 400K I own a 2006 305 Conquest, now it's not the mother of all whalers any longer. It is the only prototype in existence right now. It does look like a Whaler if you think Conquest series. My 2 cents: Even though the bow thruster is a neat idea, when you drive a sports car like this whaler, seems unneccesary. I routinely handle my 305 by myself, big as this boat is, you will need a spotter/helper on the bow to dock this baby. (and maybe a bow thruster) LOL. All that said, I want one. -Kelly Hicks P.S. They have built in 12volt bait freezers now on the 320 Outrage cuddy, and the 345 Conquest.Nice addition, don't you agree? |
| Chuck Tribolet |
IIRC the Defiance was $440,000 with the Yanmars and options. Less with Cat Power.
|
| kglinz |
The Conquest is certainly smaller than a Grady White 36 and the Grady will be available with twin 350 Yamahas. I would think the price would be fairly near the same. |
| jimh |
I just watched the two videos (linked above). The WOW factor is off the chart, the meter is pegged. This is an amazing boat. It's a 50-MPH screamer with a yacht cabin, air conditioning and heating, all the electronics, and things other boat builders have not even thought of yet. An electric tilting bed/matress! That's the sort of thing you get on a custom European yacht--not an American production boat. V-P of Engineering Ron Berman did a great job on the video showing the boat's features. The stunner for this boat will be: Yes, the price is out of sight, but there is a market at this price point. I think the 345 CONQUEST will be a sell out. Now let's see are some high-resolution video footage of the boat running in some seas. |
| Bella con23 |
Before I even took delivery it would get a visit from Pipe Welders for a nice low profile tuna tower and some real outriggers. At 50 MPH I could be in the Hudson Canyon in under two hours! What would that do for the price per pound for fish? |
| bluewaterpirate |
What's really interesting isthey ddid some redesign of the Conquest 345 hull. It looks like the deadrise forward is in the range of 22 - 23 degrees. This will make a heck of difference running into the seas. It only weights 700 lbs less than the GW 360 Express and with the same power gets about 6 mph more out the hull. It would be interesting the see the time to plane and speed to stay on plane figures. I really like the design of the helm electronics space but most of all I like where they placed the batteries and battery switches and master power panel. Everything has easy accessiblity. Nice boat. Tom |
| revsrobson |
Boston Whaler brass is claiming over 50-MPH top-end with triple 250 Verados/ Let's see: The boat weighs 14,200 lbs without engines. That is 18.9 lbs/HP. The 305 Conquest weighs 8,500 lbs and with twin 250's its top end is less than 45-MPH and is 17-lbs/HP. If the 345 costs anywhere near $400,000 I would pass on it. That is twice as much as a 305 Conquest. |
| JMARTIN |
So are you suppose to use an inflatable to get to shore? Store it in the bilge in the handy compartment with the dock lines? John |
| BOB KEMMLER JR |
I believe the base price of the 345 CONQUEST is $297,589. The MSRP on the boat at the show boat was $418,282, but the show price was $394,558. That is a lot of boat for the money. I got it from a VERY good source there are two hulls larger than this in the works. |
| sraab928 |
I watched the video last night and can't get it out of my mind. I absolutely love this boat. I think they hit the nail right on the head. I have no idea how I could afford one but I want to! |
| jimh |
Boat prices are not linear with length. If the price of a 345 CONQUEST is twice as much as 305 CONQUEST, it would not be a surprise. |
| revsrobson |
How can the base price of the boat be $297,000 and the boat show boat get up to $395,000? ( boat show price) This doesn't make sense. |
| jimh |
At this level, squabbles about pricing are an academic exercise for most. Buyers of this Boston Whaler will be drawn from a rather exclusive group. Even if I made a sudden windfall fortune on extensive holdings in Brunswick stock, I don't know if I am really in the market for a boat of this size. My boating consists of primarily hauling my boat on a trailer to remote locations. A Boston Whaler 345 CONQUEST will travel on its own bottom to most harbors. |
| BOB KEMMLER JR |
[BOB said he is not participating here anymore.--jimh] |
| prxmid |
It doesn't appear to me that high 300's is out of line for that size range with those amenities. |
| bluewaterpirate |
I installed electronics on a Grady 36 Express with triple Yamaha 250's and every option known to man. The gentelman paid $495000.00 for the boat. |
| kurtiss |
I went to the show and saw the 345 in person. Whaler got this one right. I don't think I have ever been as impressed with an outboard express boat as I was with the 345. We spend our time offshore fishing and diving pretty heavily. We also take a lot of extended cruises. I believe this boat will really do it all very well. I am a big fan of Cabo (though I can't afford one!). They put extreme quality engineering into their new boats and everything just makes sense. I felt the exact same way when I was looking all over the Whaler. I am not very familiar with Whaler, but I will be taking a closer look at this boat. The boat with the trips at the show had every option(including electronics) available. I believe it was priced at $395,000. The rep told me that when they get back to the factory, they will be rigging and sea trialing with twin 300 Verado's. They believe that these will become standard issue on the boat. the 300's should cruise around 30 knots, burning about 1.2 gph. The twin 275's that they have tested with cruised at 28 knots. A realistic price for the boat rigged with twins, and pretty heavy options should fall around $325k - $350k. |
| jimh |
I just love the look of the boat as seen in the first photograph shown above. That is the view and angle you'd see if you were sitting in your 13-foot Whaler and this big 345 CONQUEST came up from astern. It is a very impressive and authoritative looking boat from that angle. Thanks for the information on the pricing. In spite of the rather significant six figures in the price tag, I understand that "many" orders were placed at the show. Further, the 345 CONQUEST created quite a buzz, perhaps even qualifying as "the hit of the show." |
| Mambo Minnow |
No doubt this boat was built to take market share from the Grady White 360 Express. The standard amenities and features on this boat will make the boys in North Carolina go back to the drawing board. |
| revsrobson |
The Boston Whaler 345 Conquest is not a whaler owner "move-up" boat----it is a 40' - 50' sportfisherman move-down boat. |
| Peter |
My first take -- it appears to be well built as expected but its high weight is a concern. Based on the dimensions of this Conquest, it is not a competitor to the Grady White 360 Express. The GW 360 has a 13'4" beam versus only 11'8" on the Conquest. The GW has a 39'3" LOA (36'7" without pulpit) versus 35'11 LOA (34' w/o pulpit) for the Conquest. The only place where they are close is in weight -- GW 360 displaces 14,919 lbs versus the Conquest's 14,200 lbs. While the weight is close, the GW 360 is a much bigger boat. Except for weight, the Conquest 345 is dimensionly similar to the GW 330 Express which has a LOA of 35'10" (33'6" w/o pulpit) and an 11'7" beam. The problem is that the Conquest weighs 4000 lbs more than the GW 330 Express (dry weight 10,000 lbs). With a dry weight of 14,200 lbs, I wonder how well a Conquest 345 will perform with just two engines. Perhaps the GW 330 performance is a good substitute for the Conquest 345. The GW performance report shows that the GW 330 with a pair of F250s and fuel/gear/people weighs 12,600 lbs and gets up to 42.9 MPH. A Conquest 345 will be close to 17,000 lbs with two Verados and the same fuel/gear/people loading. According to Crouch's formula, a GW 330 weighing 17,000 lbs instead of 12,600 would require 660 HP instead of 500 HP to reach the same 42.9 MPH. Given the significant weight of this new Conquest and that its minimum HP requirement is 550 HP, I think it would be a mistake to rig the Conquest 345 with a pair of 300 Verados -- just 50 HP over the minimum. Put four guys/gals, and enough ice, fuel and gear in it for a day fishing trip and I think the twin power will be inadequate. |
| DeepSouthWhaler |
I would expect Whaler to build another Conquest model that will be in the 37-39 foot range powered with up to 900hp. This will be the boat to compete with the 360 Grady White. I see the 345 Conquest competing with the 330 Grady not the 360. Although you will see some potential 360 Grady buyers looking at the 345 Conquest. Great boat in my opinion. |
| Yiddil |
Actually a great boat from what Ive seen ... but if your gonna sell a 34 foot whaler for 400K...break down and get an actor to do the sales pitch for a few bucks... GEEEZE! This Ron Berman may be the best thing as Vice pres. for development for this boat, better than swiss cheese, .... but he sucks big mooses as a public speaker, pitchman, or publicist for this new and whats looks like an incredible boat:) You spent all this money on a new product, the biggest one they sell and you cheese it with the marketing and leave it to a novice public speaker, with no pizzaze for selling???????? They should take a page from the ETEC commercials....polished, presented with excitment, and sales pizzaz!! |
| revsrobson |
I actually thought that Ron Berman did a very good job. What they really needed was to hire a real CAMERAMAN and also ask the guy building the wooden stairs outside of the boat to stop all the hammering while they were shooting the bathroom scene. |
| Chuck Tribolet |
kkurtus: 1.2 gph @ 30 knots? That's 25 mpg, or 12.5 mpg if the gph number is per engine. That does not compute.
|
| bluewaterpirate |
It would be a terrific marketing strategy to produce videos of every Whaler model both in a static display such as the 345, plus a dynamic underway video. Why not use the Internet to the fullest extent. Makes sense to me ..... what you think? Tom |
| where2 |
I'll be the first to say "I Don't Want One". I looked it over as best I could with 8 adults and 2 kids running all over it at the show in Miami. It's an amazing boat, but it still won't fit under the bridge that brings you to my new dock behind the house. So, for everything it is, it's Too Much in the bridge clearance department. Even the without the Radar they had on it in Miami. I like the skylight hatches to bring fresh air into the helm, along with the opening center window. However, it is fortunate that they equipped this thing with dedicated A/C for the Helm, because I can see it getting rather warm running this in the sub-tropics in the summer. It was noted that this is currently the only hull out of this mold. I cannot fathom the time it must take to build one of these hulls. There are so many pieces that appear to have been made just for this hull. I cannot imagine how much space it must require at the factory to work with this mold and hull. |
| jimh |
The information content of the WHALER.TV video on the 345 CONQUEST was very high. Sure, it could have used some better: --editing I am much happier having had the chance to see it, with its little production flaws included, than NOT having had a chance to see it. No, it is not going to win any award for best industrial video. However, I can tell you from first hand experience, I have sat in a full studio production for five days, 8-hours a day, shooting the same sort of thing for big-three automotive clients, and that was just the production shoot. Two weeks in an edit suite and all kinds of tweaks, voice overs, re-tracking, etc., and you get a more finished product, all five minutes of it. And the client will have spent more than a 345 CONQUEST. For a down-and-dirty quick video walk-around of the boat, I thought the WHALER.TV piece was very good, and it was crammed with information. |
| Yiddil |
Jim, I agree the video showed a lot of content... "Sure, it could have used some better: absolutely!!! "I am much happier having had the chance to see it, with its little production flaws included, than NOT having had a chance to see it." Yes, absolutely also... NO questions on these comments, and it served the purpose of getting us to see it which I guess is the most important thing.........no doubt about it... But I still think if your going to sell something new and exciting, polished and very expensive, I think the production flaws and the amaturish way the video was presented takes away from the product. Yes, I was glad to review it, thanks for bringing it to our attention..., but come on JIm, this is not what you expect from an outfit trying to sell something of this cost and magnitude...hire a pitch man, remove the hammering in the backround, I'd have been embarrassed to show it if I owned the company... |
| kurtiss |
Peter - I know the dimensions are similar to Pursuit's 33 and Grady's 33, but the boat seems much larger than both of them when on it. I looked at all three to compare. I don't know how Whaler did it, but they squeezed a lot of boat from this size hull. It is definitely closer to Grady's 36, than the 33. They had test #'s for tripple 250's and twin 275's. Top end with trips hit 50. Top end with twins hit 45. Besides this top end difference, the cruise was almost identicle, 28 knots. Fuel consumption was worse with the twins by about 1/10 mpg. Their thought was that twin 300's should have a solid 30 knot cruise. Chuck - Sorry. I meant 1.2mpg |
| bluewaterpirate |
Remember this is a redesign of the Conquest hull. This boat has 20 degrees of deadrise at the transmon and 22 - 23 degrees of deadrise forward of the mid-ships area. This is a pretty radical redesign of the hull. That's why the performance numbers are better. |
| revsrobson |
I don't get Boston Whaler's performance claims for the 345 Conquest. Maybe they are copying Fountain and doing the performance testing with 10 gallons of fuel on board! Case in point. Ron Berman from Whaler says the boat will hit 50mph with triple 250 hp. With twin 275's it will supposedly hit 45mph. The 345 Conquest weighs 14,200 lbs. Why is the top end of Whaler's 305 Conquest with twin 250's only 44.9 mph when the boat only weighs 8,500 lbs? Anybody know what rpm Whaler is using to cruise a 345 Conquest at 28 knots with twin 275's? Sounds a little extreme to me. |
| kurtiss |
The RPM's for their cruising #'s were 4500, at 28 knots for the 275's. I am sure they will be putting these #'s up as soon as they test with the 300's. I don't know what to say about the differences in speed except that the 345 has a completely new hull design. However, I have found with cruise and wot #'s, you never really know until you are on the boat, loaded up, and heading out. |
| kurtiss |
I was wrong on the performance #'s. I saw the performance sheet on the 345 Conquest. Here are Whaler's test #'s. Triple 250 Verado's, ****421 Gallon fuel tank 4000RPM 24.7knots 28.4MPH 25.6GPH 1.11MPG 420 NM range 6300RPM 44.1knots 50.8MPH 86GPH .59MPH 224 NM range
4000RPM 18.8knots 21.7MPH 22GPH .99MPG 311 NM range 6400RPM 37.4Knots 43.1MPH 55.9GPH .77MPG 243 NM range |
| Peter |
How much fuel, people and gear was actually in each boat as tested? What propellers were the motors on each boat turning? |
