I thought I'd update my progress on my search for a way to get my 75 lb (115 lb wet) golden retriever into my boat. Those of you with bad backs and big wet dogs might want to give this a try. It's called Paws Aboard and attaches to your existing swim ladder.
I just received it yesterday and hooked it up today for a try. With the aid of a milk bone Sammie was more than willing to make the climb. I haven't tried it in the water yet but it sure works great on dry land. It seems to be very adjustable and is set up so the dog can board from shore to the middle of the lake.

I hope to get out this coming week...I'll let you know how it works out.
The cost was $200.00, OUCH, but that's a lot cheaper than a visit to the doctor and a stay in the hospital. This back of mine just doesn't seem to want to clear up. Getting old ain't much fun but it sure beats the alternative. ;-)

It looks like you might have it upside down...the ladder rungs look to be inverted...try it with the "Paws Aboard" lettering right side up. My dog's a 22-pounder so I can lift him aboard without need for a ladder, but your solution looks right for a big dog.

I have a paws aboard for my golden. Once you get it fine tuned it should work fine.
How did you hook up the top of the paws aboard?

HW...It's set up correctly. The Paws Aboard logo is on both sides of the ladder. On the starboard side of the ladder it's right side up. But it really doesn't make much of a difference, my dog can't read. ;-)
Con...the new model has two velcro strips now which attach to the top step of your existing swim ladder.
RGH...Quite a few outfitters carry Paws Aboard. The best price I could find which included free shipping was through BoatersWorld.com

If only I could keep the dog in the boat! Dam lab loves the water better than the whaler. She also likes to drag the fish stringer up on shore if bank fishing ... Brian

A Golden that doesn't like water???? I've heard of such dogs but I still have a tough time actually visualizing it. Kammie your dog isn't a Golden is it?
Old Sammie is 12 years old now so unlike her earlier days where you couldn't keep her in the boat it's a bit tougher for her to get in and out now.
If I anchor off the shore line because of rocks and leave her in the boat I get the "sad eye" look....so hopefully this paws aboard ladder will solve that problem.
It funny it just occurred to me that when I leave her in the car she's fine. But I try and leave her in the whaler and she'll have nothing to do with that. She's definitely the first one in the boat - there's no question about that. I think she's got me pretty well figured out - you just can't help but love them.

My Dalmatian has a life jacket on at all times - the buoyancy helps get him onto the swim platform on our 18 Outrage and bet it would assist a lowly Golden get up the PawsAboard. That looks real nice - a bit bulky, but nice.

We have a St. Bernard. I was thinking a davit like for pulling lobster pots. I guess we'll need a bigger boat.

In Florida freshwater, small dogs are orderves, and large dogs are a good meal for our gators. They love `em.

Cruel post, but true. I'm sending it to my brother. His golden won't stay in the boat...she loves the boat, but it's in and out, in and out...I can see a nightmare scenario if he takes his new boat (the one I'm restoring for him) down to the gulf and she jumps out and becomes dinner. I have a feeling she's going to go to school....

Most gator attacks are associated with dogs. Dogs are curious, and gators look docile. Many attacks happen when people walk their dog to the edge of the lake. The gator pops out of nowhere, grabs the dog, the owner tries to rescue dog, and the gator gets him too, then drags the dog away for dinner. I couldn`t imagine much worse that seeing your pet in a gators mouth, as he`s doing the death roll. Keep your dog in the boat in the Deep South, when in freshwater. Last year when cruising the Rainbow River, I saw a boat tied to a dock, and a women holding a rope, that was tied to a little 10 pound yapper in a life vest. I was going to ask her if she was fishing for gators, but thought better of it.
I never heard of sharks attacking dog though, and most dogs love the beach more than boats.
