I think the hull [of my Boston Whaler SQUALL] is water logged. I recently purchased an old Boston Whaler SQUALL on a trailer. I was so excited about the purchase, I really did not check the hull, most likely I would have purchased it anyway. What can I do to dry out the core material of the hull? The hull is pretty heavy. I put a moisture meter to it, a lot of wet areas, but not all.

Any suggests would be most appreciated. Thanks.

This is a frequently asked question. See:

Shadlock -

For starters, weigh the Squall. As JimH points out, look at my Squall on Cetacea page 67.

She currently weighs in at 293 pounds.

April 2002 = 484 lbs.
August 2002 = 440 lbs.
April 2003 = 400 lbs.
April 2004 = 325 lbs.
April 2005 = 325 lbs.
May 2006 = 304 lbs.
Bow = 151 lbs.
Stern = 153 lbs.
June 24, 2007 Bow 145
Stern 148
293 pounds

She should be ready to go in another decade... maybe.

I can't believe it has been that long with the "mailbox". My 69 is light and around 125lbs or so. How can a 9' boat hold 350lbs of water, that is like 45 gals.

I think it's time to take drastic measures with the S.S. Mailbox.

I think you should let a local highschool physics class attempt to centrifuge the last few gallons of water out of it.

Stand it on end, drill some holes at the other wrap in black plastic, and let gravity and heat take care of it.

Jimp,

I think your boat needs a little drive to Tucson AZ to accelerate your project. She'd be dry in one season...but then again would that closed cell foam trap the water? Your timeline is very interesting.

Needs lots of heat for a long time!

An odd story with perpetually delayed gratification based on physics.

You can't blame me for being an impatient geek. I'll do my best :-)
