The weather finally cooperated and we made it offshore. Fished an area 62 miles SE of Wilmington NC known as the Steeples. Made pretty good time (averaged 31.7 mph in 1 - 3 foot seas. 12 hours on the ocean makes for a long day but the adventure was well worth it. Nothing like a sunrise bursting from the sea! Here are some pictures and a short video of the interesting weather (had some wate spouts over the Gulf Stream). http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39396448/file.jpg http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39396450/file.jpg http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39396446/file.jpg http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39396443/file.jpg http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39396451/file.jpg http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39397772/file.jpg http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/597965/845807/ 39397763/file.jpg Enjoy ...... Very nice run. Looks like it was pretty flat out there. I'm still itching to get out in the ocean for the first time this year. Warren |

Nice catch and photos! I would be happy with a pair of Mahi in the cold NJ waters this summer. That is a long run offshore on a 21 footer. I drew first blood on our Ventura with a lone bluefish on the troll in Barnegat Bay yesterday. That's about the only pelagic around here for awhile. |

It was most definitely a long run out and back. We trailered the boat down the night before got her launched and tied up at marinia around 10 pm Friday night. Alarm woke us at 3 am Saturday morning and back to the marinia at 3:45 am. The rest you know about. Returned to the marinia at 4:50 pm to drop the fish off to be cleaned and flash frozen then headed for the ramp to load the whaler on the trailer. Got some dinner then picked our fish at 7 PM and drove back to Greenville arriving in our driveway at 9:30 PM Saturday night. Unloaded the truck/boat cleaned the boat and stored our gear in bed by 11:45 PM. Needless to say we didn't have any problems falling asleep. Well worth the effort. Gas prices at the marinia were $4.25 gallon mid-grade gas and $5.21 for diesel fuel. Needless to say didn't fuel at the marinia but the next day at a local gas station $3.59 gallon. Tom |

Great pictures and video as usual Tom. Really gives me the itch to get back out there again. Where are you storing your day's catch and still have it fresh after so many hours? Joe |

Nice trip! I'd like to see some pictures of your catch! With german fuel prices at all times highest level now and rising constantly this trip would have cost you roughly 600$! So you know what to expect for the future... Alex |

nice catch, Try this, one of the best dolphin (mahi) I have ever eaten, broil the dolphin with a little butter, for the last three-four minutes take the dolphin out and add mild salsa (cover the meat) and sprinkle it with blue cheese, I know it sounds funny but best dolphin I have ever had... good luck to you |

Great catch. When I was in the Exumas with no shops around we had to fish if we wanted to eat, and mahi was our dayly food, try this almost italian reipe. Cut mahi in 1/4 inch slices, cover with weat flour, then cook it with butter in a fry pan for two minutes, tourn the slices, add capers (under salt), withe wine and grinded pepper. Let them getting gold. It's a super recipe, it is tasty but you can taste the fish instead of the dressing. |

Tom, Were the last two photo links in your initial post taken from your GPS? If so, how did you download them into your laptop/desktop? Also, what brand/model GPS were using? I'm considering a Raymarine setup in the near future. I used the E80 system on a friends boat late last year, and was very impressed. He had the ability to overlay radar onto the GPS readout. This came in very handy while we dodged some fall squalls in the Gulf of Mexico while we traveled to our destination out 40 miles. I'm not putting radar on my Outrage 18, but the GPS component was very user friendly. Any thoughts? Jim |

Jim ...... I use a Garmin 2206 and 545. The pictures were taken from data downloaded from my 2206 to a Garmin memory stick. Once the data is on the memory stick I use Garmin Map Source to upload the data for display and manipulation purposes. Map Source has many features for displaying, sharing, and manipulation data for use in other Garmin units. Once displayed on my computer LCD I use a SnagIt to capture what is on my LCD. Once I capture the screen SnagIt let's me annotate the screen shots. Here is some video of Map Source features. http://www.bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/album/327881/ 443339#imageID=20899645 Raymarine/Furuno/Lowrance/Garmin make great multi-function displays (MFD's). I'm partial to Garmin because they make robust units that have solid fuunctionalty and are very easy to understand and use. The best advice I could give you is to try and put your hands on the MFD's your interested in, that way you can make your final purchase decision based on good solid information. Sometimes what you read in reviews may not be enough to base your final purchase decision on .... if you get my drift. Your on the water experience with the E80 dovetails into my reasoning. Here's my install on my Ventura. [url]http://www.bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/show/external/354225/491483/22580109/file.jpg[/url Tom |

Nice, fish and pics. Thanks for sharing. I think the idea of pole holders on the dock cart is great idea. I am going to copy it and do the same for my beach cart. |
