I [plan to buy] a [non-Boston Whaler] 26-foot center console with a 2002 Evinrude OceanPro. Is this hull builder [well-known]? Do they make good boats? Any recommendations about the motor? |

jtokar, Do you know this is a website dedicated to (mostly classic) Boston Whalers? I doubt you will get a lot of useful, unbias advice on the [boat] you are looking at. Anyway while you are here have you considered a Classic Whaler? Great very seaworthy boats that stand the test of time are truly unsinkable. Honestly, I have been on a lot of boats and nothing rides like a large classic Boston Whaler Outrage. My 22' Outrage handled heavy seas better than most 25 - 27 Center Consoles. Also, no other boat brand comes close to having the kind resale of a classic Whaler has. |

When I wrote my question I didn't know this was a mostly classic Whaler forum. |

I elided the name of the obscure boat builder you asked about. I never heard of them, and I don't think they have any relationship with Boston Whaler. Suppressing their name prevents this thread from attracting other inquiries on the non-Boston Whaler boat company. This often happens due to the extensive index and very high rating that GOOGLE gives our content. |

A 2002 Evinrude OceanPro is probably a very good classic two-cycle motor. Its value depends entirely on its current condition. For advice on evaluating used outboard motors see my article: Assessing Used Outboard Motors |

Thanks for the correction. I did not realize the name OceanPro was used with the DFI motors. |

Anytime someone brings up the name of a boat that is not a Boston whaler on this site, the comment always comes up that your boat can sink, but Boston whalers are unsinkable. This may be important to some but not to me, as the area that I boat in, the near Gulf off Central Florida is 4` deep out to 5 miles off shore. and has many rock piles. If I hole my Whaler on a rock pile, it won`t sink, just wallow filled to the gunwales, and I can just wade to shore. LOL. Actually not very funny at all. rich |

"I don't think Evnirude used the Ocean Pro nomenclature after 1999 or 2000." They clearly did not use it in model year 2002. My 2002 Evinrude 225s do not have the Ocean Pro submodel name on them anywhere. |

"I did not realize the name OceanPro was used with the DFI motors." The Ocean Pro model name was used for at least one year for the 150 HP DFI model when they first came out. I believe that Johnson, as an Ocean Runner, also had a 150 HP DFI model for at least one year when they first came out. |

Johnson was the first Ficht, not Evinrude and it was an Ocean Runner model. |
