This is how we determine water in our fuel tanks. Works the same on Diesel. Pure gasoline http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/jmartin-/GAS001.jpg Gasoline with tap water in it, a tube of water finding paste, a stick with water finding paste on it. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/jmartin-/GAS003.jpg Stick in the water/gas showing color change in the water. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/jmartin-/GAS004.jpg Note, in my experience, the water you get in gasoline is never as pure and clean as the tap water I put in. So, you pull out the stick, see you got an inch of water in your tank, you pump out of the bottom of the tank for a while, and stick it with a new batch of water finding paste, repeat until you can not pump any more water out. Some will almost always stay in the tank. John |

John - Very helpful. :~) For those with ethanol-blended fuel, if it does phase-separate, you will need to drain the entire tank. cf: http://northamerica.mercurymarine.com/serviceandwarranty/outboardfaqs/ ethanol.php#15 |
