I hauled out my bigger boat the other day for new bottom paint. (self service yard) And I am stumped about the external sea strainers. (Small grills that are screwed to the hull to prevent large objects from blocking the intake.)I would like to get some fresh paint on the inside of the strainer voids (which means a little surface prep, and paint application). But I don't want to unscrew them, or remove the seacock. I think I would cause more problems unscrewing and re-sealing. All my past experiences have dealt with removable and hinged strainers. (I was a little disappointed with what I found, a few @#$!#@#'s...which I am sure is normal vocabulary for a self service yard.)
I am looking for a quick, but sound solution.
Any clever ideas on how to clean out the interior void so that it is suitable for new paint.
I have already gotten the dremel out and done some level of cleaning. I was looking at back flushing a paint stripper, and letting it sit for a bit to remove the old paint.
I am hoping to at least get some spray-on bottom paint in the void.
(While unrelated to my small whaler, the question may be useful for some bigger whaler owners with gensets, head intakes, and I/O's.)
Thanks
