Last Saturday I ran 17 miles down the Indian River from my dock and out the Sebastion Inlet. The offshore forecast called for 1-2 seas 5-10 knot west winds. Unfortunately, NOAA lied to me again. It was a little sloppy offshore. We did a 1/2 day trip, ran 30 miles out and back, no fish. Had fun nevetheless. The 17 mile run from my house to the inlet that morning was awesome. It was flat calm in the river and we did not see another boat on the water for the first 12 miles of the trip. Here are 2 shots taken from the helm cruising at 30 kts. http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee75/Brian7son/?action=view& current=att1371412.jpg http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee75/Brian7son/?action=view& current=att1371422.jpg |

Absolutely beautiful! A little chilly, though, I'd imagine. On your way back, did you ply the inlet for snook? |

It was chilly on the way down. On the way back I was running late for kickoff on the Florida v. Bama game (4:00), so I didnt stop in the inlet or at Capt. Hiram's for a cold one. I usually run at 30 knots, I kicked it up to 35 knots for the last 5 miles. Made it back to my dock at 4:30 p.m., an hour and a half later than I had planned. The gulf stream had pushed me about 12 miles north when I was trolling, so it put me off my schedule. My buddy said that they had fished Sebastion Inlet 2 weeks ago on a boat at night and caught several large redfish. The smallest was 35lbs!! |
