CW member Royboy appropriately posted an ad for his beautiful Montauk models over in the Marketplace forum. I saw it and couldn't resist inserting a link and commenting here, with the thought that some of you might have missed the ad. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v406/MC1888/model/Half%20Hulls/ ?action=view¤t=DSCN0238.jpg I had a chance to see one of Royboy's models--a full hull version--in person while visiting CW member Erik Selis in Belgium earlier this year. It is truly a unique work of art, and the craftsmanship is of the highest quality. These half-hull models look to be just as nice, and what a holiday gift one would make. Just a heads up for those who might be interested. Tony |

Thanks for the nice plug, Tony. Erik's model has the distinction of being #1, the first I made. Each model since then has gotten the same level of care, although I've probably improved a few things along the way. So far there are around 30 full models in five countries, and around 15 half-hulls. I'm a little behind due to the holiday rush (no doubt fueled by Tony's plug) but I'll be making a few more (full and half) after the New Year to use up my materials. Stay tuned for a new offering or two for 2009. Roy |

Great work! Do you make a 19 Montauk in 1/2? Have pictures of the other models? |

Yes Tony, these models are a fine piece of craftsmanship. I'm very pleased to be the owner of the first model. It has a special place in the living room. Thanks again Roy. I hope you decide on building the 1980's Outrage model in the future. Erik |

I'm planning on building an 18 Outrage c1985, but I haven't cut anything yet. I'm also waiting on some photos of a 17 SS so I can build some of the nice wood interiors for my current hull (c1984 Montauk). I may do some of the other models based on this hull too, but I'm really excited about the Outrage project. Roy |

I, too, received a half-hull for Christmas. BEAUTIFUL! Roy, how about photo-documenting the process you go through to make a series? I don't want you to give away any secrets, but I just imagine what all you do just in making the HULL (much less the railing, windshield, etc.). This half-hull sits right next to my Danbury Mint models! --- WhalerAce PS About what year will the TEMPTATION series be released? ;-) |

Oddly enough, I've been toying with the idea of making a "How It's Made" type video of the process. Perhaps I'll do one in photos first as a storyboard. There really is quite a bit of work that goes into each piece. Roy |

Royboy, make a 18" full model of an 80's Outrage and I'll take one. high sierra |

Before I get a bunch of "make my Whaler" requests, I should point out that I have to make tooling (i.e. a master wood pattern and then molds) for each hull type. These take considerable work and hundreds of dollars to produce. I have to chose my projects carefully so that I can recoup the tooling cost and hopefully make my time worthwhile. Roy |

If anyone has a drawing of the mid '80's 18 Outrage, even a wood locating diagram, I would be grateful for it. I have some good photos to work from, but drawings make things much easier. Roy |

Whaler sent me this one in the mail last month. I guess it's their way of saying thanks for throwin' a bunch of $$ our way for the 190 Montauk. BTW, purdy work on yours! |

Nice work Roy, I know the amount of effort that goes into these type of projects and that profit margins usually end up sub-minimum wage. To me the most important value is in the personal satisfaction and pride in craftsmanship that work like yours demonstrates. Keep up the good work. http://s395.photobucket.com/albums/pp38/donfromct/ First try using photobucket, hope it works. |

Received my 1/2 hull Montauk. Great model. Thank you. My 5 year old has decided it would look best on his bedroom wall looking over Gloucester Harbor. I agreed. So much for my home office! Thanks again and well done. I want to mount a 1/2 motor on it now! What brand makes the best 1/2 motor:) |

Half-hull #17 is on Ebay. I have three right halves, including the one on ebay. Inexplicably, I had a run on left halves over the holidays. Roy |
