Just joined and this is my first post to the forum. Great site and have already found a wealth of information. I'm hoping some forum members may be able to provide some direction. I've lost the custom cover I had for my 1985 13' Sport (side console, no bow rail). I've been looking for a pre-made cover specifically for my model that could be used for trailering, mooring and winer cover. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

A site search for a 13 Sport cover revealed that several members here have and recommend a cover from Cabellas for this particular model.

Hit submit too soon, I couldn't find anything specific for a BW 13 Sport on Cabella's but here is a link for 13 Sport covers on boat-cover (dot) com:

Water Rat,

Welcome. Mills also made the OEM covers for the classic whalers and still does. You can order one from there however, they really are pricey (over priced in my opinion). Honestly, take your boat a good local shop and have a canvas made right over the top of the boat. No other top will fit as good as that.

As an FYI, your screen name is going to throw some here for a loop. There was a user here named "WaterRat" a year ago that was "one" of the most disruptive members ever. Besides just being down right rude and slanderous he also took it upon himself to to tell some they were *&#!'n crazy to ask the prices for their boats they were, as well as, publicity accosted people for paying those prices. A down right troll and really left a very bad taste in everyone's mouth. I am not saying to change your screen but, just beware some may jump all over you before realizing you are not the same guy.

BlueMax and Jeffs22,
Thank you very much for the welcome and the suggestions - I will follow-up on both. Also, thanks Jeff for the heads-up on my user name; most definitely not one and the same. Water Rat refers to the name of my other boat and I will change it here once I figure out how.

Water Rat,

I must confess your screen name brought back memories of a less than pleasant fellow.

Your profile doesn't say where you live. I have been looking for a nice well made cover for a 15' Sport and, like Jeff, can't stomach Mills' pricing.

Tom W Clark recommended The Sailors' Tailor, which is in Ohio. Their phone number is: (800) 800-6050.

I spoke with the owner on the phone and liked him immediately. He did not have a pattern for a 15' Sport, but might for a 13'. I suggest you try them.

They did say that if I made a pattern they would make a cover for me from the pattern, and I may do that.

I got my cover from Cabelas' Bargain Cave. It was the model for "no rails". They actually mean no front rails. My 13 has the standard side rails, and the cover fits very snugly, with 3-5 inches overlap on each side. It's notched out at the rear to go around the motor mounting. VERY sturdy - lots of strap reinforcement. Says it's trailerable and guaranteed 3 years. They list them in their catalogs. Originally $145.00 - I paid $45.00 for a returned cover with everything intact.

Cabela's sells a very nice cover for a 13' sport. As noted in a post above "no rails" means no bow rail.

Once again, thank you for the information and I will b following up. Wasatch, I live south of Boston, MA, actually not too far from the original Whaler plant in Rockland, MA. The cover I've "misplaced" (lost) must have been a Mills' product.
Still have to change my screen name - don't want to be labeled because of someone else's bad manners (I'm fully capable of that myself).

Thanks again and happy New Year.

WR,
I have an original Mills cover for my 1987 13' Super Sport, it's pretty tough looking at this point and so thin, I can just about read through it!
Every Spring I add another coating or two of 303 to repel water, and it stays alive for the season, in spite of what the seagulls adulterate it with.....
I too want the cover for the mooring and winter. I just don't see how these Cabella covers attach to the hull on a mooring.

I think I'm going to get one more year out of my Mills (I've said that for the past 4 years)and then go for a new (Mills) cover because they work so well clipping to the rub rail on the mooring.
What ever you decide....keep it posted...thanks.

Water Rat-

I am also a new member and bought a 13' Sport last season. I too went looking for a mooring cover and wound up going with the Mills product. It is no doubt pricey but it fits well and is a very solid construction.

Great at the dock and through the winters here in Minnesota. I hope.
